The former Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the New Patriotic Party Presidential Election Committee, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye has hinted at the party’s decision to engage the former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo John Kyerematen to return to the party.

According to Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, he deeply regrets the resignation of the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Alan Kyerematen from the New Patriotic Party.

Professor Oquaye stated that Mr Alan Kwadwo John Kyerematen is a very distinguished man and it will be very helpful if the New Patriotic can bring him back to the party as it will contribute immensely to the fortunes of the party in the 2024 General Elections.

“He is a fine gentleman and I am sorry that today we don’t have him with us but like the Majority Leader said we will need to engage him because politics is a game of numbers, so we need to engage him. He is a man of excellence and they should engage him in all possible means to bring him back to the party. Even the dead appreciate more numbers, how much do the living?

Peter Mac Maanu Bemoans Of Alan’s Resignation

Again, the former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Peter Mac Maanu described Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s resignation from the New Patriotic Party as an unfortunate decision.

He concurred with the former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye that the New Patriotic must take every step to resolve all outstanding issues, especially after the November 4 National Delegate Conference to have a formidable front ahead of the 2024 General Elections.

“Of course, the party should work hard to bring everybody on board, I told you earlier that what is needed is that after the primaries, we forge in unity, and everybody must be brought on board”.

Peter Mac-Maanu

According to the former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, he believes the New Patriotic Party would overcome the current challenges it is facing and will mobilize to win the election 2024.

“The history of internal primaries in Africa has been that of turmoil, but eventually it settled down. The New Patriotic has gone through this before. President Kufour encountered similar challenges, but when he was given the mandate, eventually all of us rallied behind him and I am very sure that come November whoever is given the mantle after the primaries, we shall all rally behind such person in solidarity and unity for the party to forge ahead.

Moreover, flagbearer aspirant and former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Afriyie Akoto also indicated that he is very disappointed at the decision of Mr. Alan Kyerematen to resign from the party.

He believes strongly that the party will undertake urgent measures going forward to address the concerns raised by the former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

“We have had a series of meetings and the party leadership has given us the assurance that they are going to resolve all the concerns raised by Alan, and I am sure that is going to happen. The Chairman of the Presidential Election Committee, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye has a very high reputation, we have nothing but to believe the assurances he is been given us, so we shall wait and see”.

Dr. Afriyie Akoto

The New Patriotic Party is set to hold its presidential primaries on November 4 2023 to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections. The party has declared its resolve of breaking the eight year jinx that has characterized Ghana’s electoral politics since 1992.
