Over 900 PPP Members In Sunyani Defect To The NDC

Over 900 members of the Progressive People’s Party in Suyani in the Bono Region have defected to the National Democratic Congress ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In a press conference addressed by the group on Wednesday, October 18 2023, the group indicated that the National Democratic Congress is the only political party that can take power from the ruling New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.

According to the group, the Progressive People’s Party is not in a position to win power in the 2024 general election due to the inadequate mobilization force of the party.

“PPP cannot help us to take Ghana from the New Patriotic Party. Everyone in the country knows the level of mess of the NPP administration has gotten to. It has been the most terrible government I have seen since I was born. Things are very bad under President Akufo-Addo, Bawumia and the New Patriotic government. They deliberately destroyed the businesses of Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom and over 50,000 Ghanaians have lost their job as a result of this”.

A Defected Member of PPP

The group also bemoaned of the extreme hardship in the country under President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party administration. It emphasized that all sectors including education, health agriculture, and road infrastructure among others have deteriorated under the current government.

According to the group, it is therefore the reason it is joining the National Democratic Congress to team up to capture power in the 2024 general election.

Asiedu Nketia Urges Pro-Nkrumah Supporters To Join NDC

Moreover, the National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah who was at the press conference called on all pro-Nkrumah supporters particularly those within the Progressive Peoples Party, the Convention Peoples Party to rally behind the National Democratic Congress to capture power in the 2024 general elections.

The National Democratic Congress National Chairman further expressed his disappointment over the continuous disintegration of the Nkrumahist tradition which has given undue advantage to the ruling New Patriotic Party to win election in the country.

“This is not how Nkrumah built Ghana, We have divided ourselves to allow the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition to use some of us to help them capture the country and destroy it. This is the time for all of us to rise above our individual interests and join forces to wrestle power from the New Patriotic Party”.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah

Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah further called on the group to advise the leader of the Progressive People’s Party, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom to join the National Democratic Congress.

According to Mr Asiedu Nketia the next National Democratic Congress administration will restore the businesses of Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom that were collapsed by the New Patriot Party and President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

Meanwhile, Ghanaians have been urged by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to refute the myths that those elected to public office are inevitably corrupt and that law enforcement and anti-corruption organizations work to support the incumbent government.

He stressed that the goals of security services and other anti-corruption organizations, including the Ghana Police Service (GPS), are to serve the interests of the general public rather than that of any one person or political party.

Thus, President Akufo-Addo pleaded with everyone to dispel the myth that public servants are dishonest and only hold office to steal.

“We ought to pray for the understanding in Ghana that not everybody who is elected in this office is a thief. It’s an assumption in our country that people who come to political offices enrich themselves. Some of us would have been better off in the private sector. It is an assumption that we ought to work hard and try and dispel.”
