The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has launched a blistering assault on the leadership of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), demanding the immediate firing of its Director-General, Professor Samuel O. Ofori Bekoe, over gross negligence and complicity in what he describes as a “grand LGBTQ agenda.”

The lawmaker accused the council of targeting Ghanaian schoolchildren through a controversial teacher’s manual. The controversy stems from a Physical Education manual that has reportedly been in circulation for two weeks, containing definitions of gender and sexuality that the MP claims are “poisonous.”

“The Director General of NaCCA must be fired for one, sleeping on the job; two, being complicit in this grand LGBTQ agenda; and thirdly, coming to spill falsehoods to Ghanaians. As we speak, their so-called revised version, which they edited yesterday, still bears the definition of sex, sexuality, and sexual orientation as pertained in this book”

While NaCCA scrambled to issue a reactive statement claiming the material has been withdrawn and revised, Rev. Fordjour dismissed these claims as blatant falsehoods, insisting that the problematic content remains active in both digital and physical forms.

Rev. Fordjour, a former Deputy Minister of Education and a firm proponent of the Anti-LGBTQ bill in parliament, argued that the mere existence of these manuals in classrooms represents a total breakdown of the council’s gatekeeping mandate. He contended that the review process is supposed to be a preemptive strike against errors, not a post-mortem exercise conducted only after public outcry.

The MP suggested that the fact that the books were printed, distributed, and taught for a fortnight without being flagged indicates either a deliberate attempt to smuggle in the content or a level of incompetence that warrants dismissal. For the Assin South lawmaker, “sleeping on the job,” is an understatement for a failure of this magnitude.

Deception and Digital Mirage

A central pillar of Rev. Fordjour’s argument was that NaCCA is being economical with the truth regarding their corrective measures.

He alleged that the council’s claim of having edited the content is a “lie,” pointing out that digital versions were only hastily touched up after the MP and other stakeholders flagged the issue publicly.

He noted that the statement released by the Council to address the crisis was not only slow but also “irresponsibly drafted,” containing numerous errors that further expose the lack of professionalism at the heart of the institution.

Even more critical to Rev. Fordjour, was the fact that despite the official withdrawal narrative, cited reports from the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) indicate that no actual recall has taken place.

“So who did NaCCA write to? Who did they give that instruction to? And what steps are they taking? These books are still in the classrooms, and teachers are being forced to teach it to our students”

Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, MP for Assin South

He challenged the government and NaCCA to produce the official directives sent to regional and district directors of education to retrieve the physical manuals from teachers.

Without a physical recall, he warned, the poison and damage continue to be administered in classrooms across the country.
