The Member of Parliament for Suame, Honourable John Darko, has rejected any suggestion that he participated in a post-litigation arrangement that compromised a court judgement involving SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited and Equity Savings and Loans Limited.
In a press release dated Wednesday, October 14, 2026, his lawyers clarified that his involvement was confined to his work as legal counsel for Equity and his former membership of the company’s board.

The statement, issued by the Darko, Keli-Delataa Company, follows the MP’s appearance before investigators of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on October 13.
According to his legal team, the questioning focused on “his representation of Equity in litigation over a matured but unpaid investment involving SIC, as well as his board membership between 2015 and 2023.”
His lawyers stressed that their firm’s involvement ended after the litigation and the recovery of part of the judgment awards for SIC, with no participation in subsequent negotiations between the parties.
“Further, our client had ceased to be board member of Equity by September 2023 and was certainly not a participant in any decision to compromise a court judgment in a conspiratorial scheme to deny SIC the benefits of its judicial awards.”

The press release further explained that the law firm terminated its provision of legal services to Equity before the post-judgment developments because of unpaid legal fees. It also affirmed that the firm is unaware of any decision by Equity to dispose of land under judicial attachment to a third party, ECOSWISS.
Addressing the scope of his professional engagement, the Suame MP’s lawyers insisted that their client has no part in any subsequent settlement concerning the judgment. They also rejected the suggestion that his former position on Equity’s board implicated him in decisions taken after his tenure ended.

Honourable Darko, through his lawyers, affirmed his readiness to assist EOCO with any further inquiries concerning his role and that of the firm. The statement also commended the investigators for their professionalism and the courtesies extended to the MP during the interrogation.
Seeking to reassure the public about his professional conduct, the legal team emphasised that their practice had been guided by ethical obligations throughout its representation of Equity. The release concluded that the firm’s conduct has been consistent with the standards expected of legal practitioners.
EOCO Questions Suame MP Over GH¢27m SIC Loss
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) questioned Suame Member of Parliament, Honourable John Darko over an alleged GH¢27 million financial loss involving SIC Savings and Loans Company Limited.
The development follows the arrest and prosecution of Manhyia South MP, Honourable Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah in a separate investigation involving alleged financial transactions linked to the same institution. While Honourable Awuah has been charged and granted court bail, Honourable Darko has been granted enquiry bail as investigations into the alleged GH¢27 million loss continue.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 13, EOCO confirmed that Honourable Darko reported to its office at noon after receiving an invitation to assist with its investigations. The Office subsequently granted him enquiry bail, citing “the circumstances of the case, the applicable law and his cooperation with investigators.”
“The investigation is progressing steadily in line with the Office’s case theory. However, given that the matter remains under active investigation, no conclusion has been reached regarding the culpability or otherwise of any person connected to the matter.”

The agency also confirmed that Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, the former Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans honoured an invitation and is co-operating with investigators.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) attempted to arrest Manhyia South MP Honourable Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026, shortly after he appeared as counsel for a client.
A female officer approached him and asked him to accompany her to EOCO’s office. He declined and drove away as the officer attempted to open his vehicle’s door. EOCO later said the operation was linked to an ongoing investigation and followed two invitations issued in February, which te agency said the MP failed to honour.
After obtaining a High Court warrant for his arrest, EOCO secured his attendance on October 1, 2026, when he voluntarily reported to its office accompanied by his lawyers. He was subsequently arrested and detained as investigators pursued allegations relating to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans.
On October 3, he was arraigned before the High Court and pleaded not guilty to charges including conspiracy, intentionally causing financial loss to the state and money laundering. The court granted him GH¢10 million bail with two sureties and ordered him to deposit his passport with the court registry.
