Stanley Didia, better known by his stage name Omah Lay, is a Nigerian Afrobeats singer who has expressed his controversial views on religion, which he finds offensive.

Omah Lay is one emotional artist and his style of music is a unique one that his fans will call ‘Afro Depression’ and this is because of the heartbreak songs that he mostly releases.

“As soon as I made money I just switched, I just believed in God and respected God, and then I became more human than just religious. I just don’t enjoy religion anymore and I grew up in a Christian home and spent a lot of time in church. At a point, I even wanted to convert to Islam, but I’m now at this point where it’s just me and God, no religion.”

Omah Lay

Omah Lay went a step further and stated that a lack of evidence was the reason behind his problem with religion. For him, there is no evidence that the sacred texts of the world’s religions were penned by God or his representatives. He does not believe in religion, even though he believes in God’s existence.

“I really don’t know anything and that’s the problem, it’s just these books and everyone is saying this and that but in no way does it sound true. These are just books that I cannot find evidence that was written by God or his servant himself, so I feel like I don’t know anything. In as much as I know the Bible, I know Jesus, and I know Allah, but at the end of the day, I don’t have evidence. The only evidence that I have is that he is moving me, I know there is something somewhere that is in charge of this whole thing,”

Omah Lay

He disclosed that he had contemplated switching from Christianity to Islam at one point. But at this point in his life, he feels that he may have a relationship with God without adhering to any one religion.

The ‘SOSO’ crooner stated that his reverence for the Almighty God transcends religious boundaries. He was introduced to the idea of religion while growing up in a somewhat religious environment, but he has come to the conclusion that religion is not for him.

He also talked about his style of music, how his fans can relate to his music, and how he was served breakfast at some point in his life and how that affected him.

An Unconventional Rise to Fame

Omah Lay revealed that he comes from the streets and he knew that there was a better life out there for him, adding that his stand helped with his breakthrough.

He disclosed that he was not shocked by his sudden rise to fame because he knew where he was going.

“I don’t think I was shocked with the way the thing happened because I had always known that I was going that way with my life. Of course, I knew where I was going. I had to quit for it. I quit school at 23. That was University… So when the whole thing happened, it just happened fast in such a way that it went from 1 to 70. I don’t think it’s fast anymore. I used to think it was fast, and now begin to realize that it just happened the way it was supposed to happen.”

He further noted that he is a strong person even though a lot of people got it the way he did.

Omah Lay disclosed that he didn’t have it the way others did and that’s why he is interested in himself more than what is happening around him.

“I don’t know I am learning myself every day. I feel like there’s something new about me that I am discovering every time. I never had it the way any other person did; I had it differently,” he said.

“Omah Lay was Stanley’s dream that came to reality before he was even ready. I don’t if I wasn’t ready but then it was like I was still living in Stanley and Omah Lay was flying. So I had to find a way to grow into Omah Lay,” he further added.

Omah Lay revealed that with time he understood a lot more, learned and grew, and learned how to live his life.
