NPP November 4 Primaries: Dr Akoto Urges Supporters To Uphold Party’s Unity

Dr. Owusu Afryie Akoto, a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party has called members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party to uphold and protect the party’s unity both before and after Saturday’s, November 4 National Delegates Conference.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, November 1, the former Member of Parliament for Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region and former Minister of Food and Agriculture warned against any conduct that is likely to undermine the unity of the party.

He stated that the primary purpose for the conduct of the party’s National Delegates Conference is to select the flagbearer for the 2024 general elections

“The November 4 flagbearer elections is not a make or break for the party.”

Furthermore, the former Minister of Food and Agriculture indicated that he embarked on the most issue-based campaign after highlighting his achievements in the agriculture sector to delegates across the country.

He noted that throughout his campaign engagement with members and delegates of the party, he identified the most pressing needs of the members of the party, particularly those at the grassroots. According to him, such a lesson would form the bedrock of the reforms that his administration intends to carry out if delegates elect him on Saturday, November 4 2023.

“Our campaign has been conducted from the smallest hamlet to the biggest cities around the country and we have ensured that our vision is carried throughout the two hundred and seventy-five constituencies in the country. The past few weeks, my few visits have clearly shown a wave sweeping through the support I enjoyed among delegates across the country”.

About his developmental agenda to transform agriculture in Ghana to boost the country’s economy, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto promised to set up an agricultural management team if he becomes president of Ghana.

Dr Afriyie Akoto explained that the agricultural management team will have the responsibility of ensuring that adequate financial resources are allocated to agriculture.

“We should give it special attention by making sure that at least we reach the AU target of allocating 10 per cent of our budget to agriculture. To do that, I will set up an agricultural management team chaired by the Vice President and the Vice President will be presiding over the agricultural management team to ensure that the budget required for the transformation of agriculture will take place. And then, Ghana can reap the benefits.”

Dr. Akoto Urges NPP Presidential Election Committee To Adopt Measures That Promote Unity

Moreover, the presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, urged the Presidential Elections Committee of the party to adopt a forward-looking approach and prioritize the party’s unity in conducting the primaries.

He indicated any perception of favouritism or a lack of a level playing field in the upcoming primaries could hinder efforts to unite the party against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the general election.

Dr Akoto, therefore, urged the Presidential Election Committee to ensure transparency and fairness in the NPP Presidential Primary scheduled for November 4, 2023.

Again, Dr Akoto called for transparency and fairness in the election process, underscoring its pivotal role in preserving the party’s unity as it gears up for the 2024 general election.

The former Minister for Food and Agriculture called on the committee to prioritise the party’s unity, recognizing it as an indispensable factor in conducting the primaries.

Additionally, Dr. Owusu Afryie Akoto bemoaned the recent development in the New Patriotic Party leading to the resignation of some key personalities.

He pledged his commitment and dedication to welcome back all members of the New Patriotic Party who have left the party when he is elected the party’s flagbearer after the November 4 2023, National Delegate Conference.

“That is the kind of unity we looking for; to send a signal to this country that yes the New Patriotic Party is ready to continue the government of Ghana”.

Dr. Owusu Akoto Afryie

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries are set to take place on Saturday, November 4, 2023, with a total of 203,439 delegates expected to partake in it.

The election will take place in the various constituencies across all 16 regions of the country in addition to the head office of the party at Asylum Down, Accra to elect a flagbearer to represent the party in the 2024 general elections.
