Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s campaign team has described his number one position on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary ballot as a divine sign of victory ahead of the party’s January 2026 flagbearer elections.
Following the balloting exercise held at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, the spokesperson for the Kennedy Agyapong campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng, said the outcome reflected fairness and transparency and carried significant symbolic value for their candidate’s prospects.
“There were just five candidates. It was an open process, and the candidates had representatives who picked their own numbers,” he said. According to Mr. Kwarteng, occupying the top spot on the ballot, offers strategic advantages in voter visibility and campaign marketing.
“Being number one gives us a lot of advantage,” he said, adding that the campaign’s confidence rested on more than just the ballot position. He also emphasized that the Agyapong team’s message of change and renewal continued to resonate with delegates across the country.
“From day one, we have always maintained that our campaign is the right one. We are going to tell delegates the core message of the party and what Ken has always maintained, that even in the spirit of revival, we need a new face. Kennedy is bringing three things: jobs, jobs, and more jobs. That’s the most important thing”

Mr. Kwarteng added that while the team was pleased with the symbolic boost of drawing number one, their focus remained firmly on communicating practical solutions to the country’s economic and social challenges.
“We are not fixated on any number,” he said, explaining that for the team, there are other legitimate factors that must be acknowledged and worked on in order to win the NPP flagbearship race.
Speaking on whether or not the number one spot guaranteed victory, especially since Mr. Agyapong previously held the same position in the 2024 primaries but lost, Mr. Kwarteng maintained that circumstances had changed.
“These are two separate elections with different dynamics. This time around, we are at number one, and that should send a strong signal that we are coming up. But the most important thing is that whatever number we chose was divine.
“We will go to the delegates, talk to them, with a lot of hope. The Bible says, the heart of the king is in the hands of the Lord – so we are confident that God will guide this process in our favour”

Balloting Results and Campaign Momentum
The NPP’s presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026, will feature five contenders: former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.
Kennedy Agyapong drew the first spot on the ballot, followed by Dr. Bryan Acheampong in second place, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia third, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum fourth, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong fifth.
Meanwhile, shortly after his release from police custody over his involvement in illegal mining, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, resumed active campaigning for Dr. Bawumia.
He appealed to delegates to support the former Vice President, saying, “Dr. Bawumia is Number 3 on the ballot, delegates, we are pleading with you, for our future – the 3 is the lucky number.”
With official results from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the NPP headquarters confirming the balloting positions of all five contenders for the NPP flagbearership, scheduled for January 2026, the state is set for the party to further advance its rebuilding efforts after the 2024 defeat.

The outcome of the ballot has energized all camps, setting the stage for an intense contest as delegates prepare to decide who will lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
