Ghana Redefines MSMEs for Better Policy Support and Greater Investment

K.T. Hammond

Minister for Trade and Member of Parliament for the Adansi-Asokwa Constituency has asked Ghanaians to be expectant of an economic turnaround as his party, the New Patriotic Party seeks to Break the Eight.

According to him, the country’s economy is seeing a rebound after the international destabilization caused by COVID-19 and the Ukraine-Russian war.

He urged Ghanaians not to panic but to be expectant of wonders.

“We now getting traction after that. We are building it. We have a year to go. and you will see wonders. Watch the space from now to December 7. Look for the details of the growth, look at the platform that we are going to mount our campaign on going into the next elections.

“Don’t panic, something is coming out soon.”

K.T. Hammond

According to him, the NDC was unserious to bid them farewell after the reading of economic policy by Ken Ofori Atta.

“I mean these guys are jokers. They were waving goodbye at us. We are breaking the eight and we are coming back and Mahamudu Bawumia. In the next administration in 2025, the NPP will be sitting at that same side that you saw us today. I am confident, It is as simple as this; there is the 1D, IF with all the cars that we are manufacturing. There is the industrial transformation that is taking place in this country. There is the agricultural front of it. There is the cocoa front of it…the exchange rate will stabilize.”

K.T. Hammond

“The economy will do well”, he stressed.

Global Impact Of COVID-19 And Wars

Moreover, the Trade Minister delved into extensive reading on both the pandemic and the Ukraine situation. Interestingly, whenever President Akufo Addo mentions these topics, there seems to be a sense of amusement in the air. However, a broader perspective gleaned from international sources reveals a different narrative. Hence, for him, examining international papers, IMF reports, and statements from global leaders, it becomes evident that the pandemic has adversely affected even the economies of advanced nations.

Contrary to the local sentiment, leaders worldwide acknowledge the economic havoc wrought by these catastrophic events. He expressed his surprise at the disconnect when former President John Mahama addressed the same issues his colleagues mocked when raised by the current president.

He mentioned that the former President has acknowledged on international platforms that these challenges have had unfavorable repercussions on the international stage,

If even he concedes to the severity of these issues, why then does a dismissive attitude prevail when the country’s president raises them? he quizzed.

Moreover, Honorable K.T. Hammond said he was not surprised at the reaction of the minority caucus after the presentation.

“They will say that, what were you expecting of them? I expected they would say such things but let’s see. I don’t think you have the absolute details of what the budget entails. I think the finance minister was giving us a summary of what we intend to do.”

K.T. Hammond

He, however, urged that the public pay attention to the details which will be later made available.

“But let us wait till we have the full budget or what it is all about. Let’s wait for the nitty gritty the little bits and pieces, and the real nuggets of the budget and we will see what to do about it. He didn’t come to tease us, it is a summary. Look, the last budget, we were here for so long for so many hours listening to the budget. But he’s given us what I call the summary. That is why we didn’t hear a lot about there being so much money here and all of such.”
