Kennedy Agyapong Urges NPP to Listen to Ghanaians for 2028 Victory

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has urged party delegates to align with the will of Ghanaians in deciding the party’s future leadership ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking during his campaign tour of the Savannah Region, Mr. Agyapong emphasized that the party’s success depends on reflecting the sentiments of ordinary Ghanaians rather than internal political interests.

The politician believes the NPP can only regain power by restoring public trust and demonstrating unity anchored in listening to the people. He cautioned against using influence or intimidation within the party, insisting that victory comes from understanding and addressing the concerns of citizens.

“We have the men, but we are not going to use the men to intimidate. When it comes to elections, we have to listen to Ghanaians. It’s not only us (NPP) who are going to vote. If it was only NPP voting, like we would have won the last election.

“So if it’s power we are looking for, then we should listen to what the people of Ghana are saying, not what we the NPPs are saying”

He described himself as “the luckiest man” in the history of Ghanaian politics, claiming that his popularity stems from his honesty and consistency. According to Mr. Agyapong, the NPP must therefore prioritize electability over internal favoritism.

Mr. Agyapong reiterated that Ghana needs a leader with business acumen rather than a career politician, arguing that his extensive experience in the private sector positions him to stimulate industrial growth and create jobs, especially in the five northern regions.

“You need a businessman who will come and create industries, at least in the five northern regions. I’m going to move two ministries to the five northern regions. The first one, I know, will go to Tamale – because of the Tamale Airport.

“And I’m sure, because you have the airstrip (Upper West Region), we will turn it into a proper airport so that we can send our produce to the European and UK markets with cargo planes”

Mr. Agyapong’s proposal to relocate key ministries to the north, he noted, would promote regional balance, encourage investment, and create employment opportunities, stressing that economic transformation cannot happen without localized industrialization and effective leadership.

Commending Burkina Faso’s Leadership

Meanwhile, Mr. Agyapong commended Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, for his dedication to his country’s progress, describing Traoré as a “patriotic leader willing to sacrifice personal comfort for national development.”

“We are closer to Burkina. Go and see what the young man is doing. Are you saying he’s a better human being than us? No, but he loves his country, that is all. He’s sacrificing his life for Burkina Faso. Do we have the same people here?”

The flagbearer hopeful urged Ghanaians to emulate such examples of leadership, lamenting that the country’s challenges stem not from a lack of resources but from poor leadership. “You are not poor; you are poor in leadership. And these same people will come and tell you, ‘Vote for Mr. A,’ when Mr. A cannot change your life,” he said.

As the NPP prepares for its internal elections, Mr. Agyapong’s message underscores a growing call for introspection within the party.

He insists that reclaiming power in 2028 requires humility, reform, and a genuine connection with the electorate as his campaign continues to resonate with sections of the public who see him as a bridge between political experience and private-sector pragmatism.

Mr. Agyapong’s appeal for a listening and accountable leadership signals a defining moment in the NPP’s internal politics – one that could shape its direction under Ghana’s current political climate.
