The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr Kingsley Agyemang, has donated a range of essential medical equipment and consumables to the Kyebi Government Hospital, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the municipality and easing pressure on the facility’s existing resources.

The donation, presented directly to hospital management, forms part of the MP’s continuing engagement with the facility, which he described as a direct response to specific needs communicated to him by hospital staff during previous visits.

The items donated include three suction machines, three electronic weighing scales, 32 pulse oximeters, 10 blood pressure machines, 10 thermometers, three electronic patient monitors, 20 wheelchairs, several boxes of examination gloves, and one cardiotocography (CTG) machine, among other consumables.

According to Dr Agyemang, the selection of items was informed directly by requests from the hospital, targeting equipment gaps that had been affecting the facility’s ability to deliver certain services efficiently.

He noted that the donation covered both diagnostic and patient-monitoring equipment as well as bulk consumables needed for day-to-day clinical operations.

MP Settles All Inpatient Bills for Uninsured Patients

“These are our response to the urgent needs you expressed to us, suction machines, CTGs, electronic patient monitors, weighing scales, oximeters, wheelchairs, thermometers and consumables including surgical gloves,”

Dr Kingsley Agyemang

Beyond the equipment donation, Dr Agyemang also settled all outstanding inpatient bills at the facility, with particular focus on patients who are not covered by health insurance.

He said this gesture has become a recurring part of his engagement with the hospital, noting that a significant proportion of patients at the facility remain uninsured and therefore vulnerable to accumulating medical debt during hospital stays.

He explained that clearing these bills is intended to relieve immediate financial pressure on affected families while reinforcing continued access to care at the facility.

Dialysis Centre Planned For Next Year

Looking ahead, Dr Agyemang announced plans to establish what he described as the first-ever dialysis centre at the Kyebi Government Hospital, targeting completion within the next year.

He said the decision was driven by data showing a rising incidence of kidney-related conditions within the municipality, which he said made the intervention increasingly urgent.

“Kidney-related issues are on the rise, and we cannot wait for government, which is usually slow in responding to such emergencies, so we will establish this dialysis centre as our token to healthcare,”

Dr Kingsley Agyemang

Dr Agyemang used the occasion to make a broader appeal for collective responsibility in financing healthcare delivery, arguing that reliance on government alone is insufficient to meet the scale of needs at the district level.

He urged individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to contribute toward strengthening healthcare infrastructure, stressing that inaction carries direct consequences for patients who depend on facilities like Kyebi Government Hospital.

Push to Elevate Kyebi Hospital’s Referral Status

The MP further called for concerted efforts to position the Kyebi Government Hospital as a fully functioning referral facility, noting that it remains the only facility of its kind at the district level, with other health facilities in the area operating as sub-district centres feeding into it.

He said improving the hospital’s infrastructure and presentation was essential to ensuring that referral patients receive proper standards of care.

The latest donation adds to a pattern of recurring support Dr Agyemang has extended to the Kyebi Government Hospital, combining equipment provision, bill settlement and forward-looking infrastructure commitments.

With the proposed dialysis centre now publicly announced, attention will likely turn to how the project is resourced and implemented over the coming year, and whether the initiative draws additional support from other stakeholders as the MP has appealed for shared responsibility in health financing.
