NDC Set To Announce Its Running Mate In 2024

John Dramani Mahama

The National Democratic Congress flagbearer and leader, John Dramani Mahama has revealed that the party would announce its running mate for the 2024 general elections in 2024.

Responding to a request from some traditional leaders in the Asunafo South Constituency for the National Democratic Congress flagbearer to consider, Honorable Eric Opoku, the Member of Parliament for the Constituency for the running mate role, Mr Mahama indicated that the party would make such a decision in 2024 after it has exhausted all the required procedures.

According to the Former President who is seeking to become the President of Ghana for the second term, the selection and decision of the party’s running mate requires the party to go through all the necessary consultations and laid down procedures as established in the party’s constitution.

“What I will say is that, just like custom has it, our party also has processes to select candidates for various roles”.

Again, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections stated that even though it is the Presidential Candidate of the party that nominates the running mate of the party ahead of any general elections, such decision is mostly taken by the Presidential candidate, National executives, and Council of Elders of the party.

According to Mr Mahama, the processes leading to the nomination of the party’s running mate for the 2024 general elections would commence in 2024.

“So keep praying for such a time”.

Moreover, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections admonished the party’s supporters and members to exercise calm as the party prepares to announce its running mate for the 2024 general elections.

The former President noted that it is very important for members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress to eschew any act and conduct that would undermine the unity in the party ahead of the nominations of the party’s running mate in 2024.

On the other hand, Former President John Dramani Mahama has accused President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of undermining the freedom of speech and described his leadership style as ‘vindictive and autocratic’.

Speaking to a gathering of traditional leaders and residents in the Ahafo region as part of his Building Ghana Tour, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama expressed deep worry about the inability of teachers and headmasters to speak out on the various challenges confronting their schools due to the fear of victimizations among others.

Mr Mahama explaining the importance of free speech in any democratic country lamented over how the attacks on critical voices by President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party administrations’ have undermined people’s right to free speech.

In addition, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer for the 2024 general elections touted his administration ‘opened centered leadership’ that allowed citizens and critical voices to assess and criticise various policies of his administration as against President Akufo-Addo’s administration’s constant attacks on critical voices in the country.

“They say when there’s a race between lies and the truth, the lies take an early lead. But eventually, at the finish line, the truth will be vindicated and the truth will win in any democracy. In any country, the right to free speech is very important. At the time I was president, we allowed people to speak freely, and so if things were not going well in schools, the headmasters and the teachers could complain and talk. Unfortunately, that changed when the Nana Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government came in”.
