NPP Primaries: Survey Predicts Landslide Victory For Pro-Wontumi MPs In Ashanti Region

Bernard Antwi Bosiako

A research report from the Center of Political Watchers (CPW) has predicted that all New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region who backed the reelection of the regional party Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, are likely to retain their seat to represent the party in the 2024 general elections.

According to the report, five of the said Members of Parliament including John Kumah, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Dr Ayew Afriyie, Alex Blankson and Dr Isaac Opoku are already going unopposed in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party in the region.

The research also indicated that the majority of the said Members of Parliament who are going unopposed is mainly due to their constituents desire to honour and recognize them for their excellent work as Members of Parliament who have consistently served the interests of the region’, the general public in addition to their separate constituencies.

Furthermore, based on the interactions with delegates throughout the region, the research confidently forecasted that the other lawmakers who backed Chairman Wontumi’s reelection bid would also be justly rewarded in the upcoming New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries for their outstanding performance in their constituencies and in parliament, as well as their advocacy of the region’s interests.

The research concluded on the following parliamentarians, Dr. Kingsley Nyarko of Kwadaso, Akwasi Konadu of Manhyia North, Adelaide Ntim of Nsuta Kwamang Beposo, and Mavis Nkansah Boadu of Afigya Sekyere East and Kofi Amankwah Manu of Atwima Kwanwoma as the parliamentary candidates who would certainly win the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries on January 27 2023.

Others include Kwaku Kwarteng of Obuase West, Akwasi Boateng Darko of Bosome Freho, Yaw Addo Frimpong of Manso Adubia, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong of Mampong and Dr Patrick Boakye Yiadom of Obuasi East.

Old Tafo Parliamentary Aspirants Pledges To Establish Development Fund

Meanwhile, Dr Louise Carol Serwaa Donkor, a parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region’s Old Tafo Constituency, has promised to give the Constituency’s development a priority if elected as a member of parliament.

Dr Serwaa Donkor revealed that when elected as a Member of Parliament, she shall establish the Tafo-Pankrono Development Fund to provide sustained financing of the developmental projects within the Old Tafo Constituency.

In her opinion, the emphasis should shift from utilizing Central Government resources to build communities to finding creative solutions to the various issues affecting the constituency.

She thus argued that instead of concentrating solely on utilizing Central Government resources to build communities, creative solutions to the various problems plaguing society should be explored.

“I understand development, I understand leadership. All my life, I have been in service, I have been in positions of leadership and what I have learned is what I want to bequeath my community or society with”.

Despite not winning the 2019 Parliamentary Primary to represent the Old Tafo Constituency, Dr Serwaa Donkor expressed confidence that the delegates would vote for her in the party’s parliamentary primaries on January 27 2023.

“It is not about defeating anybody, it is just a contest, somebody is going to emerge a winner and I am going to emerge a winner and afterwards we are all going to work together to break the Eight and make Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the next President of Ghana. That is what I am interested in”.
