A group of Constituency Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Asante Akyem North has petitioned the leadership of the New Patriotic Party to take punitive sanctions against the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi for alleged non-party conduct.

In a petition written by the Constituency Secretary, Williams Aboagye Boateng and addressed to the National Elections Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party, the group accused the incumbent Member of Parliament, Honorable Andy Appiah Kubi of his deliberate refusal to work with the various executives in the Asante Akyem North Constituency.

According to William Aboagye Boateng, the Constituency Secretary for the Asante Akyem North, while it is expected of Members of Parliament to maintain a close working relationship with the party’s executives to ensure efficient party organization and effective representation of the constituents’ interests, the Honorable Andy Appiah Kubi has failed to demonstrate that he could work with his constituency executives.

“We, the undersigned Constituency Executive Committee members and concerned citizens of Asante Akyem North write this petition to bring to your attention the significant concerns regarding the conduct and performance of Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi, who is seeking re-election as the New Patriotic Party’s candidate for the upcoming elections”.

The group further accused the incumbent Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Lawyer Andy Appiah Kubi for failing to attend meetings at the Asante Akyem North Municipal Assembly.

Mr   Aboagye Boateng posited that the Honorable Andy Appiah Kubi has failed to discharge his responsibility to actively participate in the decision-making process, contribute to the development of the district, and address the concerns and needs of the constituents as required of him as a member of the assembly.

According to him, the absence of the Honorable Andy Appiah Kubi at the assembly level and his lack of engagements with the constituency executives have severely undermined the progress of the Asante Akyem North Constituency and has ultimately caused the constituency to lose the proper representation it deserves.

Moreover, the group of the New Patriotic Party Constituency Executives in the Asante Akyem North accused the Honorable Andy Appiah Kubi of betraying the New Patriotic Party during the district-level elections by sponsoring some known members of the opposition National Democratic Congress against some candidates affiliated to the New Patriotic Party.

“We have an audio recording of the Assembly member-elect commending him on radio for his support in diverse ways. We believe that the New Patriotic Party should be represented by individuals who are committed, accountable, and dedicated to serving the people”.

According to the group, the conduct of Honorable Andy Appiah Kubi and his failure to discharge his duties and responsibilities as a Member of Parliament raises questions about his suitability to continue representing the New Patriotic Party in the Asante Akyem North Constituency in the 2024 general elections.

The group thus called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party and the Vetting Committee to thoroughly assess and consider the various concerns it has raised about the Honorable Andy  Appiah Kubi during the vetting process.

The group emphasized that it is crucial to ensure that the candidate that represents the New Patriotic Party in the Asante Akyem North Constituency in the 2024 general elections truly embodies the values and principles of the party.

“We believe that our concerns are valid and deserve your attention. We trust that the Vetting Committee will conduct a fair and transparent evaluation, taking into account the best interests of the party and the constituents we represent. Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to a thorough examination of this matter and a decision that upholds the principles of accountability and good governance”.

Williams Aboagye Boateng

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party will on 27th January 2024 hold its primaries to select candidates that will represent the party in the various constituencies it has incumbent Members of Parliament for the 2024 December 7 general elections.
