Concerned Delegates of Odododiodioo NDC Call for Reinstatement of Disqualified Candidate

Mr. Michael Nii Yarboi Annan

Some Concerned Members and Delegates of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Odododiodioo Constituency have expressed their concern over what they perceive as actions by the National Executive Committee (NEC) that could jeopardise the party’s stronghold in the constituency.

The delegates, representing the National Democratic Congress in Odododiodioo, in a press conference called for a reconsideration of the party’s decision to disqualify Mr Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from the party’s parliamentary primaries, stating that the decision could threaten the NDC’s hold on the constituency.

According to the delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Odododiodio Constituency, the opponents of Mr Annan within the Constituency are threatened by his popularity, the reason some of them orchestrated the plans for his disqualification.

“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of the press. We are members and delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Odododiodioo Constituency. Our press conference this afternoon is in the supreme interest of the NDC in this constituency, and that is to call on the National Executive Committee to be cautious of their actions which tends to threaten what is considered as an otherwise safe seat for the NDC.

“We have summoned you here because as concerned members of the party in this constituency, we are convinced without a scintilla of doubt that the actions and decisions of FEC tend to make us lose a seat which we have won safely in five consecutive elections. Ladies and gentlemen of the press, at this juncture, we wish to chronicle a few events which have led us to where we are today, making our cherished constituency volatile”.

Concerned Delegates of NDC In Odododiodioo

The Concerned Delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Odododiodio Constituency narrating the sequence of events that led to the disqualification of Mr Annan from the party’s parliamentary primaries alleged that numerous petitions were sent to the vetting committee, citing frivolous grounds, however, Mr. Annan was cleared by the vetting committee.

The group of delegates further recounted that despite the vetting committee’s clearance, a Special Committee established by the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress did not endorse Mr. Annan’s qualifications which according to them led to Mr Annan’s decision to appeal for review through his lawyers.

Again, the Concerned Delegates further raised concerns about the lack of transparency in communication regarding parliamentary primaries in the Odododiodio Constituency and highlighted instances where important information about the primaries was not communicated to the Constituency Executive Committee leading to confusion and a lack of clarity.

Moreover, the Concerned Delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Odododiodio Constituency expressed concern over the posturing of some regional and national executives, stating that the decision by the leadership of the party to adopt Odododiodioo Constituency as a special project should not translate to taking over the constituency.

They called for the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress to work in tandem with the Constituency Executive Committee (CEC) and respect the mandate given to the Constituency Executive Committee by the local party members.

In addition, the Concerned Delegates called for the reinstatement of Mr Michael Nii Yarboi Annan to contest in the parliamentary primaries, emphasizing that the decision to disqualify him is not in the party’s best interest.

The Concerned Delegates questioned the fairness of disqualifying Mr Annan while allowing other candidates with alleged irregularities, such as dual nationality, to contest and strongly argued that such actions go against the principles of fairness and fidelity to the National Democratic Congress Constitution.

They warned that excluding Mr Annan from the contest could lead to a boycott of both the parliamentary primaries and the 2024 General Elections by party members and constituents, emphasizing their commitment to ensuring that the will of the people prevails.

They thus urged the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress to allow delegates to decide the party’s leadership in the constituency through a fair and transparent process

The Concerned Delegates of the National Democratic Congress in the Odododiodioo stressed their readiness to pursue every available option to ensure the party’s leadership respects the will of the people in the constituency.
