Championing Sustainable Mining: Samuel A. Jinapor’s Mission at Mining Indaba 2024

Samuel Abu Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources

Ghana’s Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, is gearing up to spearhead an agenda of sustainable mining practices at the Mining Indaba 2024 in Cape Town, taking place from today 5th to 8th February 2024.

His journey begins with a notable presence at the Ministerial Symposium, where he will participate in a panel discussion aimed at propelling Africa into a new era of investment. During this symposium, Minister Jinapor intends to shed light on innovative solutions to some of the continent’s most pressing challenges. This sets the stage for Ghana’s unwavering commitment to responsible resource management, positioning the nation as a beacon for sustainable practices in the mining sector.

A pivotal moment in the Minister’s itinerary is a lunch meeting with officials from Goldfields Limited. This gathering emphasizes collaborative efforts between the government and industry players, showcasing a shared commitment to the pursuit of sustainable mining practices. Following this, a strategic meeting with AngloGold Ashanti is on the agenda, focusing on strengthening partnerships and exploring avenues for environmentally conscious mining initiatives.

Keynote Speech At The Intergovernmental Summit

The pinnacle of Minister Jinapor’s participation comes with a keynote speech at the Intergovernmental Summit. Here, he will unveil Ghana’s vision for sustainable mining of green minerals, outlining comprehensive strategies to balance supply and security.

The Minister will emphasize the need to ensure that international mineral partnerships provide equitable value to producers, marking a significant step towards creating a sustainable and inclusive global mining industry.

In a panel discussion following his lunch meetings, Mr Jinapor will delve into the critical topic of international mineral partnerships. The discussion aims to explore whether these partnerships are delivering fair value to mining producers globally.

Mr Jinapor’s day will conclude with media engagements, including a studio interview with INDABA TV and a radio interview with Radio France Internationale (RFI). These interactions will provide the platforms to amplify Ghana’s commitment to responsible and sustainable mining practices on the global stage.

Mr Jinapor’s engagements will reflect Ghana’s commitment to fostering responsible mining practices, driving sustainable growth, and building international partnerships for a prosperous mining future in Africa.

Mining Indaba serves as the backdrop for these engagements, offering a unique platform for stakeholders to discuss and address challenges in the mining sector. It acts as a catalyst for driving sustainable practices, fostering international collaboration, and charting a path towards responsible resource development.

In 2024 the Conference aims to elevate experiences through the theme: ‘Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining’ – which will encourage and support the needed change and disruption the African mining industry needs to move forward.

Samuel A. Jinapor’s presence at Mining Indaba 2024 symbolizes Ghana’s commitment to championing sustainable mining practices, fostering partnerships, and leading the way towards a more responsible and equitable future for the mining sector in Africa and beyond.
