Yetunde Kuti, the wife of Nigerian musician Seun Kuti, has shared the challenges she faced when deciding to marry into the Kuti family.

Yetunde revealed her family’s concerns and misconceptions.

The singer’s wife shared that despite her family’s reservations about her marrying Seun Kuti, she defied their warnings and married the singer.

Yetunde disclosed that her family held preconceived notions about her husband based on the polygamous history of Seun’s father, Fela Kuti.

According to her, her relatives warned her that if she married Seun Kuti, she would be just one of his 35 wives, comparing it to Fela Kuti’s marriages.

Despite the warnings, Yetunde emphasized that she chose to challenge societal stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding marriage.

“I have always had the idea of not wanting to be married, and my family was expecting me not to get married, especially to Seun. I grew up with people whose marriages were not stable and looked at it from their perspective, and I realized that everybody has their own reasons why their marriages didn’t work, and people can’t just continue like that,” she said

“There’s a sacrifice that one has to make, but some people don’t want to make the sacrifice. My family said my life would end if I married Seun Kuti and that I would just be one of his 35 wives. They said his father married many wives and that he would marry more than him,” she further added.

Sharing Perspective On Infidelity In Marriage

Renowned musician Seun Kuti shared his perspective on fidelity within marriage, asserting that he could never leave his wife should she ever cheat on him.

He claims that their marital status is unaffected by infidelity.

His wife, Yetunde, who recently appeared with him on the Valentine edition of TVC’s Your View, stated she would not leave if the singer cheated on her.

“There is nothing my husband is going to do that would make me leave him. Even if he cheats on me I won’t leave him. I am not going to leave my husband because he cheated on me. Nah, that can’t happen,” Mrs Yetunde said.

“We don’t believe in cheating. What is cheating? Love is not ownership,” Mr. Seun Kuti inferred.

Seun Kuti responding to if he would leave his wife if she should cheat on him, asserted that there was no way he was going to leave his wife for anything.

In another story, Grammy-nominated afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti raised an alarm over an allegation that his life is under serious threat.

The controversial 40-year-old singer accused some unnamed persons of wanting to “destroy and kill” him for speaking the “truth.”

Speaking in a recent video shared via his Instagram page, Seun Kuti revealed that he has lost count of court cases and police invitations he has received over the years. He stated that he is fighting many secret “wars” alone.

“I will reveal it here today. They want silent me for this country. I can’t tell you how many wars I am fighting alone. I can’t tell you how many cases are in court for nothing, or how many police invitations left, right, and center for nothing. For just saying the truth, everybody is inviting the police on me,” he stated.

“Because I am telling the truth, they are trying to destroy and kill me. They are trying to bring me down and destroy my name. It’s not easy. They have been silencing speakers of the truth since 705 BC,” he revealed.
