The Japanese government, through the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has assured Ghana that it is working on securing funds to complete the Volivo bridge in the Volta Region.

This assurance comes after the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Mochizuki Hisanobu, and the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, had discussions about the completion of road infrastructure projects in Ghana.

The discussions highlighted Japan’s commitment to supporting Ghana in its road and highway projects, including the Volivo Bridge, which is crucial for enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic activities in the region.

“I wish to express the appreciation of the government of Ghana to the Prime Minister and the people of Japan for their contributions to the development of our country, particularly in the provision of infrastructure.”

Additionally, the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) agreed to provide additional funding to cover the increased costs incurred during the construction of the Assin Praso-Assin Foso road.

These extra expenses, amounting to about 30.5 million Yen, were primarily due to fuel price hikes, material escalation, and challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The discussions also addressed the progress of other projects such as the Kumasi Inner Ring Road and the Tema-Motorway Interchange Phase II, where necessary measures are being implemented to ensure smooth delivery.

According to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the discussions also addressed the progress of other projects such as the Kumasi Inner Ring Road and the Tema-Motorway Interchange Phase II, where necessary measures are being implemented to ensure smooth delivery.

Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, the Minister of Roads and Highways, also asked the Japanese government to move quickly to secure extra funds for the Volivo Bridge project, emphasizing its significance for improving connectivity and promoting local economic activity.

Impacted by Japan’s support for Ghana’s road and highway projects

Japan’s support for Ghana’s road and highway projects has significantly impacted the country’s socio-economic development. Infrastructure projects, such as the completion of the Volivo Bridge and the provision of additional funding for the Assin Praso-Assin Foso road project, are crucial for enhancing connectivity and facilitating economic activities across Ghana.

By improving road infrastructure, Japan has contributed to the ease of movement of goods and services, which is essential for trade and commerce. This has a direct positive effect on Ghana’s economy by boosting local businesses, creating jobs, and encouraging foreign investment.

Furthermore, the discussions between Ghana’s Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Francis Asenso-Boakye, and the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Mochizuki Hisanobu, underscored the Ghanaian government’s appreciation for Japan’s consistent support in driving socio-economic development, particularly in the infrastructure sector.

This support not only addresses immediate needs but also lays the groundwork for future development projects, ensuring that Ghana’s infrastructure continues to improve and adapt to the country’s growing needs.

The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)’s agreement to provide additional funding for the Assin Praso-Assin Foso road project, despite increased costs due to various challenges, demonstrates Japan’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s development goals.

This commitment is crucial for Ghana’s socio-economic development, as it ensures that the country can continue to improve its infrastructure and meet the needs of its growing population and economy.

The collaboration between Ghana and Japan in infrastructure development has deepened their bilateral relations, the Road Minster reiterated.

This cooperation has been acknowledged and reinforced by high-level visits, which underscored Japan’s commitment to promoting business and investment in Ghana. Such diplomatic efforts have contributed to strengthening Ghana’s political relationships with other countries.

Japan’s support for Ghana’s road and highway projects has had a profound impact on the country’s socio-economic development by improving infrastructure, facilitating economic activities, creating jobs, and encouraging foreign investment. This support is a testament to the strong bilateral relationship between Ghana and Japan and the shared commitment to development and growth in the region.
