Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT of the opposition National Democratic Congress has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party administration of mismanaging the country’s power sector which has led to the current ongoing power outages in the country.

The former Minister of Communications under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress and Mahama’s administration questioned the ruling New Patriotic Party administration’s claims of former President John Dramani Mahama leaving excess capacity of power before he left power but yet there are power outages in the country.

“The NPP even blamed Mahama for providing excess capacity… You remember? Today, 2nd March 2024, I ask where the excess capacity is. And why are Ghanaians living in dumsor with “excess capacity?

“Why are Ghanaians suffering from Diabetes of “excess power capacity” such that in the abundance of sugar (power generation capacity) the body cells (homes and businesses in Ghana) lack power and suffer dumsor?”

Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah

Dr Omane Boamah strongly asserted that the National Democratic Congress under former President John Dramani Mahama’s administration made significant strides in resolving the power challenges by not only adding substantial power capacity but also completing critical infrastructure projects such as the Atuabo Gas Processing plant.

According to Dr Omane Boamah, even though former President John Dramani Mahama was not the one responsible for the problem during his tenure, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer did not blame his predecessors but rather took responsibility and addressed the problem through strategic investment in the country’s power sector before he left office.

Furthermore, the Director of Elections and IT of the opposition National Democratic Congress posited that former President John Dramani Mahama provided over 800 megawatts of power to solve the power crisis that bedeviled the country, popularly referred to as “dumsor”.

Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, the former Minister of Communications under the erstwhile Mahama’s administration emphasized Mahama’s accomplishments by asserting that the former president never sought praise for addressing the country’s power crisis yet members of the ruling New Patriotic Party accused him of providing excess power for the country.

Dr Omane Boamah expressed disbelief at the governing New Patriotic Party’s accusation that former President John Dramani Mahama left behind “excess capacity” and questioned why Ghanaians are now experiencing power outages despite this purported surplus.

Mahama’s Achievements And The Greenbook

Moreover, Dr Edward Omane Boamah urged Ghanaians and members of the ruling New Patriotic Party to examine the evidence of former President John Dramani Mahama’s investment in the country’s power sector as presented in the Greenbook.

He stated that the Greenbook, a comprehensive document that contains the record of former President John Dramani Mahama’s achievements during his presidency outlined the completion of the Atuabo Gas Processing plant, a significant milestone in augmenting fuel supply for the power sector.

Dr Omane Boamah additionally stated that the Greenbook captured the details of the 800 megawatts of added power capacity that the National Democratic Congress under former President John Dramani Mahama aimed at ending the power crisis while in office.

Parts of the country has witnessed a series of power outages in recent time which has led to the general public particularly the Minority in Parliament calling on the government to publish its load shedding timetable.

The Minority spokesperson on Energy, and Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusagu Constituency, John Abdulai Jinapor in a press conference in Parliament claimed that the government is unable to purchase enough fuel to power some of the thermal plants due to financial constraints, leading to generation challenges.
