Okyeame Kwame Shares His Perspective About Marriage

Okyeame Kwame

Celebrated Ghanaian musician Kwame Nsiah-Apau known popularly as Okyeame Kwame, has shared his perspective on what marriage is.

In a discussion with popular Ghanaian musician and rapper Kofi Kinaata on romantic relationships, Okyeame Kwame noted that although the physical attractiveness of one’s spouse plays a role during the courtship stage of a relationship, it holds less significance during marriage.

He noted that while partners can withdraw from each other owing to some hurtful words or actions said or done, the couple is still in a union since they are one in spirit.

“Marriage is not about body. It is a spiritual matter. You can’t abandon the spirit but you can do that to the body. The body can insult you and you’d get pissed at the body and withdraw but for spirit, you can’t,” he told Kofi Kinaata.

The two holding a discussion comes as no surprise as Kofi Kinaata featured Okyeame Kwame on his latest song ‘Sika’.

After the release of the song on March 4, 2024, a lot of music fans have not just admired the synergy of the collaboration but also wondered why the Rap Dacta would team up with the Fante Rap god for such a masterpiece.

According to Okyeame Kwame, he had always wished to have a song with Kofi Kinaata, because he respects his creativity. Kwame was the only one who had won the Songwriter of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards (GMA) twice until Kofi Kinaata came to change the narrative, by winning it on three occasions.

“I wanted to know what is in that head, and I called him for us to do a song together, and during the recording sessions, I realized why he is a great writer, ‘the boy get common sense period’. Very intelligent, very smart, he has learned the trick and the trade,” he said.

Okyeame Kwame further noted that it is a big opportunity for him to do a song with Kofi Kinaata, especially taking into consideration all his outstanding artistic attributes.

Okyeame Kwame Opens Up On His Experience With GHAMRO

Okyeame Kwame opened up about the experience he had when he was working for the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

Having worked with GHAMRO five years ago, he explained that he had a terrible experience that left him with bad memories of the organization.

In his explanation, he revealed that the institution lacked proper supervision which led to disorganization, and nobody seemed to care about their colleagues’ work.

Okyeame Kwame explained why his working experience at GHAMRO was “disheartening.”

“I worked at GHAMRO for seven months and the experience was disheartening. Sometimes after we’ve planned for elections and the time is due, then somebody will put an injunction to disrupt the whole process. Since I left GHAMRO, It took me five years to pass by there again because I was heartbroken,” he revealed.

“If you work for GHAMRO wholeheartedly you may end up dying. This is because your superiors or subordinates don’t care about you so we struggle to talk about the institution on radio,” Okyeame Kwame said.

He further added that it is high time GHAMRO takes the necessary steps to ensure that players in the creative arts sector earn the right income to improve their lives.

Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO) is a royalties collection agency within Ghana, that represents the rights of music copyright holders.

The agency collects royalties for all rights owners in Ghana and also faces regular criticisms about its transparency and engagement of stakeholders.

As of 2018, the organization was led by Rex Omar. Abraham Adjatey, commonly known as ‘Agya Abraham’ is currently the CEO of the organization.
