Six elected regional executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have submitted a petition to the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah against its Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The petition, signed by six prominent regional executives led by Patrick Acheampong, the First Regional Vice Chairman outlined several critical issues that they asserted are impacting the unity and effectiveness of the party leading into the 2024 general elections.

“I write on behalf of SIX ELECTED ASHANTI REGIONAL EXECUTIVES of the party to bring to your attention some disturbing issues relating to the performance of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP”.

These concerns, the petitioners argued require immediate attention to uphold the party’s values of transparency, inclusivity, and effective leadership.

One of the key issues raised in the petition by the six Regional Executives against the Ashanti Regional Chairman was his alleged failure to convene regular regional executives committee meetings.

The petitioners noted that for over four months, Chairman Wontumi is alleged to have neglected his duty to call for regular Regional Executive Committee meetings.

According to the six elected Regional Executives the absence of crucial gatherings has hindered the party’s ability to address pressing matters and undermines democratic processes within the regional party structure.

Furthermore, the petitioners accused the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling party of being guilty of consistently making unilateral decision, thereby sidelining the involvement of other regional executives in critical party matters that demand consensus.

Specifically, the petitioners alleged that Mr Antwi Bosiako failed to engage regional executives in the formation of campaign committees, as directed by a memo issued by the General Secretary on March 16, 2024.

This neglect, according to the six elected regional executives of the ruling party in the Ashanti Region has led to inefficiencies and missed opportunities in strategic planning and execution of campaign activities.

The petitioners also accused the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling party of lacking interest in resolving conflicts among constituency chairmen in the region, which the petitioners noted has exacerbated internal strife within the party.

These divisions in the views of the group not only weaken the party’s collective ability to mobilize support in the region but also goes  a long way to undermine its objectives.

Allegations Of Underutilization of Party Structures

Moreover, the petition by the six elected Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region accused the Regional Chairman of underutilization of party structures.

The petitioners mentioned that despite the presence of established party structures within the region, Mr Antwi Bosiako allegedly favors working with his own team, neglecting existing organizational frameworks.

This underutilization of party structures in the region in the view of the petitioners diminishes the impact of the party’s organizational structure, hindering outreach and engagement capabilities.

In response to these pressing concerns, the six elected officers called for immediate intervention from the party’s General Secretary to rectify the situation and ensure the smooth functioning of the party in the Ashanti Region.

The petitioners, led by the Regional Vice Chairman, Patrick Acheampong emphasized that cohesive and proactive leadership at all levels are essential for the party’s success in the upcoming campaign activities.

As a testament to their resolve, the petitioners further urged the party’s General Secretary to postpone the regional campaign launch by the Vice President until the critical issues raised in the petition are amicably resolved.

The submission of this petition underscores the depth of discontent within the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region and an urgent demand for accountability and effective leadership within the party’s ranks.
