Bisa Kdei Laments On Promotion Of Ghanaian Music

Bisa Kdei

Popular Highlife artist, Bisa Kdei has blamed the poor reception of Ghanaian music in other countries on the fact that the Year of Return and the Beyond the Return festivities were not used to promote Ghanaian music.

Bisa Kdei acknowledged the impact of the Year of Return and the Beyond the Return festivities had on the creative space, adding that it should have been used to promote authentic Ghanaian sounds.

“I don’t think we utilized the Year of Return very well. Some foreigners, even Nigerians, came to Ghana hoping to hear authentic Ghanaian songs. But we were busy playing Amapiano and Afrobeats for them. So when they were going back to their countries, which songs would they take away?

“The Year of Return was very big, and it attracted a lot of people from around the world. This was our chance to sell our culture and promote ourselves. But if you went to the clubs around that time, they were busy promoting songs from other countries.”

The situation, he noted, led to these sounds being accepted in international markets while Ghanaian music was unrecognized.

“So if a Ghanaian artist decides to host a show out there, the foreigners won’t attend because they can’t recognize his song. But they recognize the Afrobeats and the Amapianos,” he said.

Also, Bisa Kdei pointed out that the disparagement by certain promoters has hindered the development of the music industry, leading to reluctance from investors to support it.

“Some promoters claim that no Ghanaian artist can fill the O2 Arena, continuously undermining the efforts of Ghanaian artists. Let’s highlight the positives to inspire others to excel. No one should disparage our music because some foreign artists even come to Ghana to learn.”

Currently, Bisa Kdei is promoting his emotionally resonant single “Medaase,” which is steadily gaining popularity nationwide.

Reason For Holding a Secret Wedding

Bisa Kdei revealed the reason he chose to hold his wedding ceremony in secret.

The news that the ‘Mansa’ hitmaker, Bisa Kdei, had finally tied the knot, shocked Ghanaians.

The wedding ceremony was a beautiful testament to their love and commitment to each other.

The ‘Asew’ hitmaker married his sweetheart in front of family and a few friends in a private wedding ceremony.

The event was a spectacle, with performances from top artists including Gyakie, S3fa, and Sista Afia.

Speaking of why he chose to keep his marriage ceremony a secret, Bisa Kdei, whose real name is Ronald Kweku Dei Appiah, explained that he did not want to put his personal affairs on social media.

He explained that he was not avoiding anything but chose to hold his wedding in secret to protect his wife from the harsh nature of social media.

“I wasn’t avoiding anything, I didn’t want to put my business and my wife’s identity all over social media. So I held the marriage in secret to protect her. Even though people came with their phones. We tried to control it. Everybody has what they prefer, some people like to put their personal lives out there and some choose to keep their lives private.

“I choose to keep my personal life private. But I knew the news would be spread to the public, so it wasn’t a big deal. So it wasn’t because I had a secret relationship or anything, I just wanted to keep my personal affairs secret.”

Bisa Kdei’s wedding came shortly after the wedding of media personality Berla Mundi, who also got hitched in a private wedding in Accra to Ghanaian businessman David Tabi.
