Richard Ahiagba, National Communications Director- NPP

The Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of wishing Ghanaians misfortune.

He argued that the NDC has structured its campaign around highlighting the pains of Ghanaians without offering alternative solutions to the plights of Ghanaians.

He alleged that the NDC does not understand the issues and events that have led the country to its current situation and therefore has no authority on the subject matter. He argued that the NDC is only using the current situation to make itself appear good to Ghanaians.

“A democratic conversation should be about alternative ideas so if they want to engage in this campaign they must present ideas and not want to leverage the incidental event across the world of which Ghana is part. Anybody who has real ideas and alternatives to offer will not make that kind of prayer”.

Richard Ahiagbah

Furthermore, commenting on the Report published by Global InfoAnalytics, the NPP Communicator indicated that the outcome of the survey conducted by the research firm cannot be considered conclusive.

He argued that the language barrier is likely to affect the outcome of the survey as translating questions from English to the local language could change meanings to original questions while the translation of answers to questions may also suffer the same faith. “For me, the premium to be put on this is really not one that we should take so high”, he added.

Mr. Richard Ahiagbah also indicated that from the report, one can get the sense of a political environment that is constantly charged and judges the actions of the government wrongly most of the time by the NDC.

He alleged that the constant criticism of the government by the NDC creates a heightened sense of difficulty in the country and dramatizes in different ways, the present economic challenges of the country.

“Therefore when you pose a question that somebody understands remotely to mean that you are asking whether things are difficult or whether things could have been better, you get these responses which may indicate that the country is going in the wrong direction”.

Global InfoAnalytics’ Report Bogus

Accordingly, Mr. Richard Ahiagbah argued that the report does not necessarily mean anything other than people trying to tell the government what they think it must do to improve the country’s economy.

He indicated that because the NPP is the government of the day, it is only expected that people will vent their concerns and worries against it, indicating that the shortcomings of the people will be laid on the feet of the government.

However, the National Communications NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, said he is not surprised at the results of the survey conducted by Global Info Analytics which projects that 65% of voters believe Ghana is heading in the wrong direction.

Mr. Gyamfi stated that Ghanaians are witnesses to the current hardship under the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), indicating that the mismanagement of the economy by the Akufo-Addo-led administration is also nothing to write home about.

“Like Bob Marley said, he who feels it knows it best. And they feel the hardship. They feel the deterioration of the economy. I think it is even an understatement and that the numbers could be higher than that”.

He further noted that the price of basic food commodities, building materials, clothing, and the basic necessities of life are high due to high inflation rate, noting that the majority of Ghanaians are not able to cope because they are not seeing any improvement in their disposable income while prices continue to rise.

Conclusively, Gyamfi cited the public debt situation, the high lending rate, and the depreciation of the Ghana cedi against the U.S. dollar as instances of the NPP government’s failure.
