TGMA Reinstates Amerado’s “Kwaku Ananse” As Most Popular Song

The Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), has announced that Amerado’s “Kwaku Ananse” has been reinstated as one of the contenders for the coveted title of Most Popular Song of the Year.

This revelation comes after a thorough review by the TGMA board following a one-week window for Errors & Omissions in the nominations process.

The press release addressed the corrections made during the evaluation period. Notably, the board acknowledged an oversight regarding the categorization of Amerado’s hit track, “Kwaku Ananse.” Initially nominated for Best Highlife Song under its remix version, the board recognized the original rendition’s popularity and significance.

Consequently, “Kwaku Ananse” has been nominated for both Best Highlife Song and Most Popular Song of the Year categories.

Another adjustment highlighted in the release concerned the song “Lonely Road” by O’Kenneth & Xlim Kid. Originally submitted as a featured work, the board rectified the entry to reflect it as a joint project by both artists.

Robert Klah, on behalf of the 25th TGMA Board, expressed gratitude to the music community for their active participation in the Errors & Omissions window.

He reiterated the board’s commitment to fairness and transparency in the awards process, acknowledging the stakeholders’ contributions over the past 25 years.

Ghanaian rapper Amerado had questioned the organizers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards[TGMA] Charterhouse on why they failed to nominate his popular song, “Kwaku Ananse”.

Kwaku Ananse Remix – Amerado ft Fameye earned a place in the best collaboration category while The Hardest – Amerado earned a place in the best rap performance.

Robert Klah also responded to concerns raised by musician Sista Afia over her exclusion from announced nominations for this year’s awards.

For the beautiful Ghanaian musician, organizers of TGMA have intentionally been snubbing her since she started her music career.

Robert Klah stated, “Once you are not there, it just means you didn’t make the cut”, making it clear to the musician and all others that it may concern that only those who “make the cut” find themselves on the list.

He assured her that it had nothing to do with her offending anyone or someone downplaying her efforts as she assumed.

The PRO of Charterhouse beseeched her to remain calm since there are some years she makes the cut and others don’t, and in other years, she does not make it but others do.

Amerado’s Reaction To News Of TGMA Nomination Updates

The Ghanaian rapper, Amerado reacted to the news that the original version of his hit track, ‘Kweku Ananse’ has been nominated at the TGMAs.

Reacting to the developments, Amerado opened up about his initial indifference upon discovering the song was not on the nomination list for the most popular song.

“When I found out I wasn’t on the nomination list, especially for the most popular, I was a bit indifferent. But when I went online people were all over the place fighting for me. It felt awkward at first because I’ve tasted losses throughout my career and I’ve tasted some wins as well. So I just learn form whatever happens to me and then I move on.”

Amerado

Amerado expressed his gratitude for the change in nominations and stated that he sees it as an opportunity to push himself further in his artistry.

However, he felt that the song should have been recognized as the Songwriter of the Year.

“On my pages, I asked why I wasn’t nominated, and now my answer is here. I am pleased with all my nominations except for Songwriter of the Year, I think it should have made the cut, but then it’s fine. As I said earlier, I’ll just keep working harder and harder.”
