Rapper Explains Why He Avoids ‘Rap Beefs’

Kofi Kinaata

Highlife musician Kofi Kinaata has disclosed that he has no intention of engaging any rapper in a lyrical battle, popularly known as ‘rap beef’.

According to him, he serves as a living example for his nieces and nephews, demonstrating that a career in the arts industry is a viable and respectable path despite familial skepticism.

“People come up with beefs but I just do not pay attention to them. Because I am a candidate for my family, and there is no way you can be in the art industry in my family. You can’t even be a footballer. You can only read your books, and end up working in the office.

“As I’m in Accra now, my mom calls me and asks me to take good care of myself and to respect my master. I don’t even know the master she is talkng about.”

Kofi Kinaata stated that there was a pushback from his family when he began pursuing his music career.

Consequently, he is committed to ensuring that his family never has cause to criticize him for failure or association with negative influences as an artiste.

“Before I was even getting into music, I had to be a little bit rude and my people felt I didn’t respect them because of the career path I chose. I had this strong conviction for making music. However, they’re all waiting for me to fail so that they can have something to comment on about my career. So as I am here, I’m only proving my people wrong”

Additionally, he did not want any ‘rap beef’ to bring criticism to his family.

He believes that his choices shape his future and influence perceptions about unconventional career paths for future generations in his family.

Despite being aware of rap disses aimed at him, Kofi Kinaata stated that he chooses not to respond to them.

Instead, he prioritizes releasing quality music for his fans, focusing his energy on creating meaningful content rather than engaging in conflicts.

“I have a song that says when the tracks are many, you don’t reply to diss songs,” he said.

Fans of rapper and Highlife musician Kofi Kinaata should brace themselves as for the first time in his career, the Fante Rap god would be releasing an album.

In previous interviews, he expressed reluctance to release EPs or albums due to the tendency of many listeners to focus primarily on the lead songs, neglecting the rest of the tracks.

However, it seems years of fans appealing for one has finally worn him down.

He disclosed that the album named ‘Kofi O Kofi’ would be released at the end of April 2024.

The rapper explained that the album comprises seven tracks, including his recently released single “Effiekuma Heartbreak”.

Kofi Kinaata also revealed that the other tracks were ‘Auntie Ama’, ‘Abonsam Ye Me Neighbor’ (Abonsam), ‘Saman Aba Wo Fie’ (Saman), ‘I Don’t Care’, and ‘Take Away’.

Despite the coaxing, the Takoradi-based musician chose to keep the last track a secret.

Giving other details, Kofi Kinaata stated that the first track makes him emotional because it is dedicated to his beloved mother who bears the name Auntie Ama.

“It is about my mom and I. The way I burden her, she tells me ‘Kofi what you’re doing, one day I’ll run away, and when I die you won’t find things easy in life’.”

Kofi Kinaata

He assured fans of great music stating that these tracks are unlike any other with some being spiritual.

Kofi Kinaata revealed that the songs on his album tell deep stories.
