Veep Projects Women’s Indispensable Role in National Development

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized the importance of harnessing the talents and inclusion of women in Ghana’s development, particularly as the country navigates the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President emphasized the importance of women’s leadership and enterprising nature in national development during his address at the Female CEOs Summit in Accra.

“It is imperative that we recognize the indispensable role of women in driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth. The digital revolution has brought unprecedented opportunities for growth and advancement, and women have immensely benefited. In Ghana, we have witnessed the power of technology to break down barriers, foster collaboration, and empower individuals from all walks of life.”

Dr. Bawumia called for the implementation of policies that ensure women’s inclusion and empowerment, recognizing the massive contribution of women across all sectors to national development. He noted that the government’s digitalization drive, spearheaded by him, has positively impacted women’s inclusion, especially in areas where they were previously excluded, and in women-led businesses.

The Vice President also highlighted that women are “naturally talented and enterprising” in the development of the country, suggesting that empowering them will significantly impact the country’s progress in various areas.

The Vice President further stressed the need for equal access to resources, opportunities, and support systems for women in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. He acknowledged the role of women in driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth, and how the digital revolution has brought unprecedented opportunities for growth and advancement, benefiting women immensely.

Dr. Bawumia’s address underscores the government’s commitment to creating a conducive digital environment for women entrepreneurs to access financial resources and affordable data, ensuring they can realize their full potential. He also highlighted government policy interventions aimed at fostering a culture of inclusivity and thriving in a digital economy, such as the roll-out of the digital property address system, GhanaCard, paperless ports, mobile money interoperability payment system, and the Ghana.gov portal.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President highlighted the pivotal roles women CEOs are playing in the business sector during his address at the Female CEOs Summit.

Bawumia acknowledged that women CEOs are not only driving innovation but also reshaping the business landscape in Ghana and beyond. He stressed the importance of leveraging the collective power and ingenuity of female leaders to propel the nation forward, emphasizing the need for a culture of inclusivity and diversity in all aspects of business.

“As leaders, we must challenge the status quo, break down barriers, and pave the way for the future generations of female entrepreneurs and innovators. We must champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of business, ensuring that every voice is heard, and every talent is recognized.”

The Vice President challenged stakeholders, including government, private sector, civil society, and academia, to join hands in supporting women-led businesses, promoting digital literacy, and fostering an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship. As part of his vision to train one million youth in coding and IT, Bawumia revealed that the exercise will be all-inclusive, with a special focus on training more women, who will play key roles in his government’s quest to digitally transform Ghana.

The summit, themed “Leading Ghana’s Renaissance: Women CEOs Shaping the Future of Business and Innovation,” aimed to explore the role of women in driving digital transformation and innovation in the business landscape of Ghana. It brought together women business leaders and entrepreneurs to brainstorm on harnessing digital revolution opportunities to improve their businesses and ensure sustainable economic growth.

Dr. Bawumia’s call for more effective policies to ensure women’s inclusion and empowerment, coupled with the government’s efforts to create a conducive digital environment, reflects a comprehensive approach to leveraging the potential of women in national development and the digital economy.
