On the occasion of Workers’ Day, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a resounding call to honour the resilience and dedication of Ghanaian workers while promising concrete actions to alleviate their hardships and safeguard their rights when elected into power.

The opposition party in a press statement signed by its General Secretary, Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey underscored the perceived challenges faced by Ghanaian workers under the current administration and outlined a comprehensive plan to address them.

“On this solemn occasion of Workers’ Day, the National Democratic Congress salutes the indomitable spirit of every Ghanaian worker. Your resilience and dedication in the face of adversity sustain our nation’s hope and future”

Honourable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey began by bemoaning what he describes as the profound hardships endured by Ghanaian workers amidst economic turmoil exacerbated by high inflation, dwindling disposable incomes, and a harsh tax regime under the current administration.

The former National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Ketu South in the Volta Region also lamented over the devastating impact of the ongoing power outages in the country.

In commenting on the party’s strategies to address the perceived challenges facing Ghanaian workers under the current government, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey outlined five key pledges aimed at stabilizing the country’s economy.

Firstly, Honorable Fifi Kwetey recounted the National Democratic Congress’s plans to implement robust policies to control inflation and enhance job security, ensuring economic stability for every Ghanaian.

Secondly, Mr Kwetey underscored the party’s plans to overhaul the existing tax system to reduce the financial burden on workers and redirect government spending towards public benefits that enhance the quality of life of citizens.

Moreover, the General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress affirmed the party’s promises to advance its dynamic 24-hour economy policy to provide meaningful employment opportunities for all households in the country.

He also affirmed the party’s pledges to enforce fair labour practices and ensure robust rights for all workers, defending them against exploitation and injustice when it assumes power in 2025.

In addition, Honorable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey announced the National Democratic Congress plans to undertake comprehensive measures to improve the country’s pension system to provide and guarantee a secure retirement for all Ghanaian workers.

He emphasized that the hard work of Ghanaian workers is the bedrock of the nation’s prosperity and vowed the party’s commitment to transforming challenging times into an era of abundant opportunities and enhanced livelihoods for every worker when elected into power.

Honourable Fifi Fiavi Kwetey concluded his statement by urging all Ghanaians to rally behind the party’s flagbearer former President John Dramani Mahama as he seeks to build the Ghana every citizen envisions, where fairness, economic security, inclusive growth, and prosperity will prevail.
