The Director of Communications for Dr Bawumai’s 2024 Campaign, Dennis Edward Miracle Aboagye has outlined the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s vision to revolutionize Ghana’s fishery sector when elected as President of Ghana.

Mr Miracle Aboagye, in announcing Dr Bawumia’s vision further stated that the comprehensive plan represents a pivotal step towards sustainable development and economic prosperity for all stakeholders within the country’s fishery sector.

He noted that at the core of Dr Bawumia’s vision lies a commitment to not only safeguarding the plethora of programs and projects initiated since 2017 but also to bolster the efficient implementation of a robust fisheries sector.

This plan, according to Mr Aboagye is meticulously crafted to maximize the utilization of fisheries resources across sea, inland waters, and aquaculture, with the ultimate purpose to address key challenges plaguing the sector while fostering growth and innovation.

“In addition to consolidating and protecting the 100s of Programmes and projects completed and ongoing since 2017 for our fisherfolk, Dr. Bawumia is committed to support the efficient implementation of a robust fisheries plan that promotes and maximizes the fisheries resources from the sea, inland fisheries, and aquaculture”

One of the cornerstone initiatives of Dr Bawumia’s plans according to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the former Municipal Chief Executive of Akuapem South is the provision of convenient access to credit for “fisherfolks”, enabling them to construct cold rooms and facilities essential for preserving their catch.

He further indicated that by alleviating financial barriers and facilitating infrastructure development, this measure aims to enhance the quality and value of fish products, thus opening new avenues for market access and profitability.

Furthermore, the Director of Communications for Dr Bawumai’s 2024 Campaign recounted that the New Patriotic Party flagbearer’s plan takes a holistic approach to supporting all segments of the fisheries sector, including industrial, semi-industrial, and artisanal subsectors.

By tackling issues such as inefficient distribution of pre-mix fuel, inadequate cold storage facilities, overfishing, and illegal fishing practices, Mr Aboagye posited that Dr Bawumia’s administration seeks to create an enabling environment conducive to sustainable growth and resource conservation.

Veep Committed to Empower Women in Fishery Sector

Moreover, Mr Aboagye expressed the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to amplifying the voices of women and further bolstering their socio-economic empowerment, recognizing the indispensable role of women in Ghana’s fisheries sector.

Here, Mr Aboagye underscored that with women comprising a significant 40% of the sector’s workforce, Dr Bawumia’s efforts will be directed towards providing improved access to finance, smart technologies, and equitable opportunities for women to thrive and contribute to the advancement of the country’s fishery industry.

In addition, the former Municipal Chief Executive Officer of Akuapem South stated that Dr. Bawumia’s vision encompasses a strategic focus on enhancing the Ministry of Fisheries’ progress through continuous innovation, digitization, and technology integration.

According to Mr Aboagye by embracing climate-smart technologies for processing, value addition, and marketing of fish will not only enhance efficiency but also mitigate environmental impact.

He emphasized Dr Bawumia’s administration’s commitment to prioritize the adoption of “Ahortor Ovens”, renowned for its energy efficiency and environmental friendliness, to further drive sustainability and conservation efforts in the country’s fishery sector.

The Director of Communications for Dr Bawumia’s 2024 Campaign concluded by stressing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s commitment to implement the above-mentioned policies and plans when elected as President of Ghana in the December 7 polls.

This visionary plan for the fisheries sector according to Mr Aboagye heralds a new era of progress and prosperity, marked by inclusive growth, environmental stewardship, and technological innovation.
