The Economic Fighters League (EFL) has thrown its weight behind the advocacy for a single African currency, spearheaded by Nana Kwame Bediako, a presidential aspirant and leader of New Force.

In a statement issued by Fighter Amodani Gariba from the Office of Fighter-General of Economic Fighters League, the Pan African Movement articulated the significance of Mr Bediako’s vision, particularly in light of the persistent currency crises plaguing many African countries.

The Economic Fighters League, known for its staunch pan-Africanist stance and commitment to economic freedom, sees Bediako’s proposal as a beacon of hope in the quest for genuine sovereignty and prosperity across the African continent.

The Economic Fighters League further emphasized the disparities inherent in the current currency landscape, where smaller populations grapple with weaker currencies compared to those wielded by larger countries.

The statement further stated that Economic Fighters League’s endorsement of Bediako’s proposal underscores its unwavering commitment to championing economic freedoms not only for Ghanaians but for all Africans, recognizing the shared challenges faced by countries across the African continent.

“A single African currency, underpinned by the vast mineral resources abundant across the continent, signifies a pivotal stride towards economic autonomy and liberation from Western imperialism. The EFL has long championed economic freedoms for all Ghanaians, but as a pan-Africanist movement, it extends this aspiration to encompass all Africans, recognizing the common challenges faced across the continent.”

Neo-Colonialism and Perceived Economic Instability in Africa

The Pan African Movement thus lauded the recent decisions by Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to abandon the French-controlled CFA franc, describing the move as steps towards breaking from the shackles of colonial legacy and fostering genuine economic progress.

Furthermore, the Economic Fighters League vehemently condemned what it describes as neo-colonialism and the perpetuation of economic instability by international monopoly capitalism and complicit local elites.

The Economic Fighters League statement also recounted that the road to achieving a single African currency necessitates a seismic shift in leadership and mindset across the continent.

The statement posited that the upcoming 2024 general election present an opportunity for Ghanaians to choose leadership that prioritize transformational policies.

The Economic Fighters League thus called upon Ghanaians to reject the two traditional political parties in the country, including the ruling New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Democratic Congress which it perceives as gatekeepers of foreign economic exploitation.

The Pan African Movement further urged Ghanaians to embrace alternative parties committed to economic liberation and national sovereignty like the founder and leader of the New Force, Nana Kwame Bediako.

The statement emphasized that by rallying behind Mr Bediako’s proposal and supporting candidates aligned with the vision of economic emancipation, the EFL envisions a future where Africans would reclaim their dignity and pride in their heritage.

The statement also stressed that the endorsement of a single African currency represents not only a symbolic gesture but a tangible step towards realizing genuine economic emancipation and fostering a brighter future for Africa as a whole.

The creation of a single currency for Africa has been a topic of discussion for many years, with proponents arguing it could enhance economic integration and trade within the continent.

While the African Union has been working towards this goal through the African Monetary Union (AMU), which aims to establish a single currency for Africa, the process has been slow and complex due to various economic, political, and logistical challenges faced by African countries.

Some of these challenges include differences in economic structures, inflation rates, fiscal policies, and levels of economic development among African nations.

While the idea remains on the agenda, it’s uncertain when or if a single African currency will become a reality.
