Rashid Ahmed, popularly known as Commander Rooney, the Bono Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has strongly rebutted President Nana Akufo-Addo’s assertion that John Mahama seeks to destroy his legacy if elected, dismissing the claim as unfounded.

He lambasted President Nana Akufo-Addo for making reckless and unfounded claims about his political opponent, John Mahama, saying it is irresponsible and deceitful to peddle falsehoods to influence voters

Furthermore, he condemned President Nana Akufo-Addo’s baseless accusations against John Mahama, labeling them a cheap ploy to discredit his opponent and divert attention from his leadership failures.

As such, he stressed that such unfounded claims lack concrete evidence and only serve to undermine Mahama’s credibility.

“It is also important to note that John Mahama’s record as a president speaks for itself. During his tenure, he implemented numerous developmental projects, improved infrastructure, and initiated social programs that benefited the people of Ghana”.

Moreover, the NDC patriot noted that to dismiss former President, John Mahama’s accomplishments and paint him as a threat to President Nana Akufo-Addo’s legacy is not only dishonest but also disrespectful to the hard work and dedication of the former President.

He further emphasized that as the December 7th election approaches, Ghanaians deserve a political discourse that is grounded in honesty and fairness.

As such, he indicated that prioritizing personal attacks and fear-mongering over substantive policy debates and factual achievements only serves to undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

More so he stressed that President Nana Addo must elevate the political discourse by engaging in respectful and constructive debates with his opponents.

He urged the President to refrain from spreading misinformation and false accusations, which only serve to tarnish his legacy and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.

He emphasized that Ghanaian voters have the right to make informed decisions based on verifiable facts, rather than being swayed by smear campaigns and deceitful tactics that distort the truth and undermine the electoral integrity.

President’s Legacy, Trivial

Additionally, Professor Ransford Gyampo, a renowned political scientist, observed that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s legacy is devoid of significant accomplishments, making it impossible for his opponent, John Mahama, to destroy anything of substance, thereby rendering the President’s claims baseless.

According to the Political Scientist, apart from modest advancements in digitization and the implementation of the Free SHS policy, the government’s seven-year tenure has been characterized by a stark lack of significant achievements, with little tangible impact on the lives of Ghanaians.

“A legacy of dissipated goodwill, economic malaise, nepotism, corruption, arrogance, political king-konism, masked Dumsor, sale of timeless values for US$ 3 billion, respect for only two chiefs, but with Free SHS and some digitization”.

Meanwhile, John Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, lambasted President Nana Addo for his inflammatory remarks.

He denounced these remarks as a testament to the President’s administration’s incompetence, which has plunged the country into a severe economic downturn, and accused the President of being incapable of providing effective leadership.

As the 2024 general elections approach, the NDC and NPP, Ghana’s two major political parties, have embarked on a war of words, each highlighting the other’s shortcomings in a bid to sway voters.

While this political jostling may benefit the parties, it spells trouble for the country’s democracy. The focus on mudslinging and finger-pointing detracts from meaningful discussions on policy and governance, leaving voters ill-informed about crucial issues.

This trend also perpetuates a culture of negativity, eroding trust in institutions and undermining the very fabric of democracy.

As the political temperature rises, both parties need to prioritize constructive dialogue, issue-based campaigning, and respect for opposing views, ensuring a healthy and thriving democracy that truly serves the Ghanaian people.
