Kwami Eugene’s Penchant For Sampling People’s Music

Music and events executive, Heavy D, has expressed grave disappointment in Kuami Eugene constantly using portions of other people’s music to create his songs.

Heavy D explained that he does not hate him [Kwami Eugene] as a person.

“I personally don’t like him. As an artist, I feel he’s a fantastic singer and performer. It’s just that the sampling puts me off. It’s a bit too much.”

Heavy D

Heavy D argued that given singer-songwriter and record producer, Eugene’s level of artistry and standing in the music industry, he must go back to the writing board and do some original music.

He observed that Kuami Eugene’s current hit, Canopy, interpolates established Christian worship melodies.

“He’s making hits, yes, however, how long can he sustain that for? Longevity-wise. Do you want to be an evergreen artiste? Let me hear you alone write something and [perform] it. Stand out and let me see that.”

Heavy D

An example was cited that Kuami Eugene’s ‘Monica’ is an original composition. “I’ve not listened to it. Honestly, for some time now, I don’t pay attention,” he responded.

“He’s that good, his vocals are that good, and he’s been backed by many great people [and brands] like Lynx. They are all people I respect but it’s just my opinion. He must change the narrative and create more original hits.”

Heavy D Eulogizes Medikal

Heavy D opined that it’s not news rapper Medikal filled the 2,800-capacity Indigo O2 in London, UK.

Thus, he added, it should not be praised too much because artists need to strive for bigger things.

“We both know 3,000 people is not that many.”

Heavy D

Doubling down, he asserted that the “La Hustle” hitmaker by himself, couldn’t have made the 3,000.

“He had a lot of people with him, for instance, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, so it was easy to do it.”

Heavy D

The renowned music executive and event organizer eulogized Medikal as a great artist.

“I admire skilled lyrically and at wordplay, and an artiste who has paid his dues. Let’s call a spade a spade, come on. How many hits does he have internationally and how long can he sustain a show for? Showmanship is about how long you can sustain a show and that requires many hits.

“It’s not the crowd that comes that matters. It’s how you deliver. When it comes to delivery, I don’t have an issue with him but I’m being realistic. Let’s calculate. By himself, he won’t be able to fill the venue. Not now.”

Heavy D

Heavy D congratulated Medikal for organizing people for the event’s success.

Also, Heavy D revealed that after three to six months’ promotion, Stonebwoy can fill the 20,000-capacity O2 arena in London, UK.

“Stonebwoy has done music with Angelique Kidjo, he can pull it off,” he stressed.

He considered other Ghanaian music stars who can fill the iconic venue.

“Even Shatta Wale by himself can pull it off. Yeah, he has the hits. He’s a tough guy. For Sarkodie, it’d be a bit tough for him singlehandedly. Intimating it was a matter of mass-appeal.”

Heavy D

In Heavy D’s opinion, singers have a better chance at gathering huge numbers than rappers.

“Musically, I’d say Stonebwoy has much more versatility in that area. You see, Sarkodie is a rapper. I’m talking about versatility and there’s a little advantage [singers have over rappers] in that [area].”

Heavy D

The music and events executive implied Sarkodie would need help from other acts to fill the O2 Arena.

“As a headliner, he can fill it. Anything is possible. It’s just a matter of promotion and marketing. In my opinion, however, it will be much easier for Stonebwoy than him.”

Heavy D

He advised musicians to design annual events at international venues so so that they can grow their following from there to be able to pull 02 Arena and others.
