Lil Win Goes After TGMA Board For Perpetual Snubs

Lil Win

Actor, producer, and music artiste, Kwadwo ‘Lil Win’ Nkansah has revealed that he’s seen as a comedian so he is not taken seriously by the Ghana Music Awards board and organizers.

Additionally, he noted that they assume he already has a reputable name so there is no need to add to it, noting that such discrimination is not done in big entertainment markets like America.

“I should have long been nominated for or won in categories like New Artiste of the Year and Discovery of the Year. I’m, however, not taken seriously, so I’m focused on doing what I can.”

Lil Win

On why he has not confronted the GMAs over the issue, he stated that the metal (trophy) comes with no money and his priority is to get booked to perform at various shows.

“If the metal came with some GHS50,000 or GHS100,000, I would take the snub seriously. We’re moving forward and playing plenty shows.”

Lil Win

Lil Win asserted his relevance in the music industry.

“Ghana has only five musicians who can rock a stage, and I am one of them,” he said.

He stated that some musicians are uninteresting on stage because they are often unserious, unlike him who is energized when he sees the crowd and wants to do something spectacular that will excite them and have them look forward to his future performances.

The Kumawood star noted he first became known for his acting but when he ventured into music, he took it seriously and God has blessed him.

The Ghana Music Awards, in its 25th year, is headline-sponsored since 2024 by Telecel Ghana, and organised by Charterhouse Ghana.

Lil Win has music hits such as Mama Boss Papa, Ladder, and Nkwasiasem among others.

Unreleased Movie Featuring Daddy Lumba After 8 Years

Lil Win stated that he is the first and only Ghanaian to produce a movie starring Daddy Lumba.

According to Lil Win, the movie was not released because Daddy Lumba “said he did not look his best”.

“Kwadwo, you know women love me. I am not looking good in this movie. Let’s start all over again.”

Lil Win

He stated that he explained to Lumba the looks corresponded with the character he was playing but that did not convince him.

Lil Win revealed there were more music stars in the movie including Amakye Dede, Ampong, and Kofi Nti.

“It was through this movie that Ampong met Daddy Lumba. It’s been about 8 years since. I love Daddy Lumba.”

Lil Win

He indicated that what occasioned the movie was Daddy Lumba called him to express his admiration for his work and asked them to work on a movie, adding that he wasted no time after the call.

“It’s like Rick Ross, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, asking me to collaborate on a song, I’d be ready first thing in the morning.”

Lil Win

The entrepreneur and Kumawood star remembered the Highlife icon Daddy Lumba did not charge him anything but rather gifted him GHS8,000 a couple of times and financially supported the movie.

“We also performed together at a Thanksgiving show at Miklin Hotel. He gave me more than GHS10,000 after, and we returned to the movie.”

Lil Win

Pinpointing the period this happened, he stated that Daddy Lumba’s “Nea Wo Ho Beto Wo” had been released, and that was the song they used as the movie’s soundtrack.

Lil Win went on to say that before the movie came out, however, Daddy Lumba asked to review it.

“I gave him a preview copy. He said he wanted to make sure he liked what was captured and nothing unpleasant would be released. Lumba was my rich son in the movie, and we helped a lot of people who later were ungrateful. I anticipated selling 20,000 copies in a blink after release, but the next day, I had a call.

“Daddy Lumba said: ‘Kwadwo, I like the movie but I was not looking good’. I explained to him that’s how it was to be because he would experience hardship [at a point], but he said we should redo the movie.”

Lil Win

Lil Win intimated he was pained, and even though he had toiled to produce the movie, he did not release it because he didn’t want to disrespect someone who had been kind to him.

“Even if I had paid him for the role, I wouldn’t have released it still, and this is why the movie was never released,” he said.
