The Bono East Youth Wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress has condemned alleged actions by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth to attack a nursing trainee, Abdul Alim Jariya, following the latter’s inquiry into delayed nursing training allowances during the Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s engagement with youth in the region.

The opposition party’s youth wing in the Bono East Region in a statement issued by its Deputy Regional Youth Organizer, Obeng Agyenim Boateng, expressed profound concern over the developments.

“The Bono East Youth Wing is deeply troubled and gravely concerned by the recent egregious incident that are unfolding after a public engagement involving Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“It has come to our attention that certain members of the NPP and their assigns are clandestinely orchestrating a disturbing attack on a trainee nurse, Abdul Alim Jariya, who had the courage to raise pertinent questions regarding the disbursement of much-talked-about Nursing Training Allowances, which are in arrears for her three years in school”.

The Deputy Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress in the Bono East Region while recounting the sequence of event stated that the controversy erupted at a program dubbed “Bawumia Connect with Bono East Youth”, that was held at the Techiman Community Center, where Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia engaged with local youth.

Mr Boateng stated that at the event Ms. Abdul Alim Jariya, a nursing trainee student bravely questioned the Vice President regarding the substantial delays in the disbursement of nursing training allowances, which have been in arrears for the entirety of her three-year education.

He emphasized that Ms. Jariya’s inquiry echoed the concerns of many nursing trainees nationwide who rely on these allowances to support their education and living expenses.

Mr Boateng thus criticized the ruling party for failing to address the issue constructively, and rather resorting to perceived intimidation tactics against Ms. Jariya.

Calls for Thorough Investigations

Furthermore, the Deputy Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress in the Bono East Region, Obeng Agyenim Boateng in calling for action, underscored the urgent need for security agencies in the region to conduct an investigation into the matter.

He called on relevant authorities, particularly the Ghana Police Service to thoroughly probe the allegations and ensure that those orchestrating and perpetrating the attacks face justice.

The statement also emphasized the need for the security agencies to uphold the principle of accountability and the rule of law.

Mr Boateng concluded the statement by expressing the Youth Wing of the opposition party’s solidarity with Ms. Abdul Alim Jariya and all citizens, who dare to demand for accountability and social justice.

He also reaffirmed the Youth Wing of the opposition party’s commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of young people, as well as its dedication to defending democratic values and freedoms.

Mr Boateng assured that the part would stand firm in support of Ms. Jariya and others facing similar intimidation under ruling New Patriotic Party administration.
