Kyerematen Calls For Structural Reforms To Address Cedi Depreciation

Alan Kwodwo Kyerematen, Founder and Leader of the Movement for Change (MFC), has attributed the Ghana Cedi’s depreciation to deep-seated systemic flaws and a crisis of confidence in the economy, highlighting the need for structural reforms to restore stability and investor trust.

Alan Kyerematen warned that the Cedi’s value will continue to plummet against major foreign currencies unless Ghana takes bold steps to boost exports and reduce imports, addressing the country’s debilitating trade deficit.

Alan Kyerematen further noted that there are several measures to restore the Cedi’s value, emphasizing that regulating the activities of forex bureaus would help stabilize the Cedi.

Furthermore, he emphasized that a multi-faceted approach is necessary to restore the Cedi’s strength, including measures to boost import substitution and clamp down on illegal forex trading.

“The strength of the cedi is dependent on the demand and supply of foreign exchange. There is no other way unless you produce and export. Because if you don’t produce and use that to export abroad you won’t get dollars into the system…but have you heard a head of state talk about this before? So it is a systemic failure for a long time.”

Alan Kwodwo Kyerematen

Moreover, the MFC Leader emphasized that Ghanaians have a crucial decision to make: choosing the right leader to champion the vital production and export-driven growth agenda, which is essential to reviving the struggling Cedi.

Alan Kyerematen confidently asserted that among him (Alan), Former President Mahama and Dr. Bawumia, he is the most viable choice to lead this charge, possessing the vision, expertise, and leadership skills necessary to drive Ghana’s economic resurgence.

Alan Urges Ghanaians To Embrace National Development Plan

Furthermore, Alan Kyerematen Alan Kyerematen called on Ghanaians to move beyond the unfulfilled promises of political party manifestos and instead rally behind a comprehensive national development plan that prioritizes sustainability and long-term progress.

As such, he vowed that a government under the Movement for Change would prioritize comprehensive constitutional reform, tackling all the pressing issues and inadequacies in Ghana’s Constitution to create a more robust and effective foundation for the country’s governance and development.

“When you listen to the majority, they say when NDC and NPP are in government, it is a winner-takes-all situation. If one party assumes office for eight years and you are not part of the party, then you are not part of the government. So the intelligence of many Ghanaians is disregarded in the governance of the country because it is winner-takes-all”.

Moreover, Alan Kyerematen criticized the NPP and NDC for their counterproductive habit of abandoning each other’s initiatives, even if they were well-intentioned or already underway.

He highlighted how this political ping-pong causes unnecessary financial burdens on the state, hindering Ghana’s ability to make meaningful progress and develop critical projects.

Accordingly, Alan Kyerematen emphasized that continuity is essential for Ghana’s progress and development, stressing that without it, the country will be stuck in a cycle of stagnation and unable to move forward “Ghanaians are tired, they want a plan not promises”, he added.

The MFC Leader stated that the Movement is committed to transcending the usual political promises and instead, establishing a comprehensive national plan that empowers Ghanaians with a clear understanding of the country’s direction and destiny.

“For the next 30 to 50 years, every party that assumes office would continue with whatever they meet”. – Alan Kyerematen
