Ghanaian actor, Don Little has spoken out about the tragic accident involving his colleague Lil Win, emphasizing that it was not intentional and should not lead to legal consequences.

Expressing disappointment in how Lil Win’s management handled the incident’s communication, Don Little recognized the public and the bereaved family’s understandable anger.

“My brother did not intend for this accident to happen. So, on behalf of Lil Win, I ask Ghanaians and the family of the 3-year-old boy who passed away to forgive us, despite the pain.

“The initial communication about the incident was mishandled, causing more distress. Therefore, we ask for forgiveness.”

Also, former Member of parliament, Collins Amankwah reacted to Lil Win’s arrest.

Following this arrest, the former MP informed the media that the police should handle the actor with leniency as the unfortunate incident did not seem to be intentional on his part.

“In the case of Lil Win, if the police have arrested him, I am sure they just want to deter him. But they should consider that it was an accident.”

However, Accident Victims Support Ghana told Ghanaian celebrities to be aware of the fact that they are not above the law.

“Even if the President is not above the law how much more are you a citizen, a famous person? Everybody is within the law and the law will deal with you how it ought to.

“Let me state that every celebrity should have it at the back of their mind that their celebrity status could do anything to them. However, the laws on our roads are, they should practice it and respect it.”

Rev. Benedict Crabbe

Rev. Benedict Crabbe noted the people of Ghana are okay with the current happenings and the decision by the Police to arrest Lil Win and charge him for his recklessness on the road.

Meanwhile, LilWin was detained by police on Monday, June 3, 2024, after leaving Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. He has been granted bail of GH¢50,000, and the case has been adjourned to June 27, 2024.

Actor Appeals to IGP for ‘Disciplined’ Police Officers

Don Little appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Addo Dampare, for more disciplined public conduct from police officers.

He recounted an incident with a police officer who questioned his ability to drive due to his stature, an action he found quite disturbing, prompting a call for a change in attitude.

“I encountered a police officer who remarked that if not for the ineffectiveness of the laws, I wouldn’t be driving. Am I a monkey or a hunchback?

“We are all human and should respect one another. We cooperate with you, so when you stop someone, please speak to them politely.”

Don Little

He urged the IGP to enforce discipline among the officers to ensure professionalism and curb the prevalent issue of bribery.

“Abroad, policemen are very respectful, but here in Ghana, their attitude is quite terrible and needs improvement. Some officers act as if they will never retire.

“Dampare, I implore you to address your officers. One spoiled maize can spoil the rest. Currently, many policemen are corrupt. This isn’t about hatred.”

Don Little

The police service has been criticized for its conduct, particularly in interactions with the public.

Some of the common criticisms include allegations of corruption, excessive use of force, poor handling of investigations, and lack of professionalism.

It is worth noting that the Ghana Police Service has acknowledged these issues and taken steps to address them.

However, further reforms and training are needed to ensure that the police service operates with integrity and serves the public fairly and respectfully.
