Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq., Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has underscored the pivotal role of transportation infrastructure in the economic development and population growth of developing nations, particularly in Ghana.

In a statement, the former Deputy Minister of Transport under the erstwhile Mahama’s administration emphasized how investments in railroads, highways, and airports have significantly enhanced mobility, facilitating the efficient movement of goods and passengers between rural and urban areas across the country.

She further noted that transportation infrastructure is not merely a growth factor but a multifaceted developmental process, which complements urban growth, economic productivity, and overall economic development.

This, she added has led to better access to jobs, job creation, markets, healthcare, and education, ultimately contributing to economic growth and productivity.

“The importance of transportation infrastructure cannot be overstated. The benefits of transportation infrastructure are evident in countries like the US, China, India, and Singapore, which have leveraged their transportation systems to drive economic progress, create jobs, and boost trade”.

Transportation Infrastructure Unlocking Opportunities for Humanity

Furthermore, Mrs Mogtari underscored the importance of transportation infrastructure to global development, stating that the development of transportation infrastructure among countries has effectively made the world more interconnected, unlocking numerous opportunities for humanity.

Mrs Mogtari, while highlighting Ghana’s efforts and progress made in the enhancement of its transportation infrastructure, called for more and increased measures to benefit all Ghanaians despite their geographical locations.

She argued that even though successive governments have made significant strides in improving connectivity through upgraded transport systems, there is still more work to be done in the country’s transportation sector.

Moreover, the Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawah Mogtari Esq. asserted that more comprehensive connectivity is required to optimize real-time movement across the country.

She stated that a fully operational aviation hub in Ghana would not only increase foreign investment but also boost tourism, while an efficient port infrastructure would open up economic opportunities and streamline transportation.

Mr Mogtari also highlighted the potential of a first-class road network, envisioning a highway system that seamlessly connects all 16 regional capitals in Ghana, in addition to revitalizing the country’s railway system to significantly reduce congestion and traffic, lower transportation costs, and enhance the movement of passengers and cargo.

Such an improved transportation network, she pointed out would dramatically improve accessibility, fostering economic integration and development across the country.

“Imagine a highway system that would allow for easy access to each of the 16 regional capitals in Ghana. The World Bank posits that no country can fully deliver on development without a modally developed system of transportation infrastructure”.

Effective and efficient management of transportation infrastructure according to the former Deputy Minister of Transport under NDC and Mahama’s administration requires meticulous planning, extensive research, specialized expertise, and substantial investment in modern transportation technologies.

She emphasized that by continuing to invest in and develop the country’s transportation systems, Ghana can unlock new avenues for trade, investment, and overall development, positioning itself as a key player in the global economy.
