Erdogan Seeks Diplomatic Resolution To Israel-Iran Conflict

Turkey's President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has asserted his belief that it is possible to end the conflict in Ukraine if a solid basis for peace is created.

This was disclosed by the Turkish presidency in a statement following talks between Erdogan and Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko that on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Astana.

“During the meeting of the leaders, they discussed bilateral relations between Turkey and Belarus, the consequences of the Ukrainian-Russian war, regional and global issues,” the statement noted.

During the meeting, President Erdogan said that steps should be taken to stop the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

“He said it can be stopped if a solid foundation for peace is established,” the statement added.

According to the statement, Erdogan affirmed Turkey’s intention to “continue to strive for peace and have sincere communication with both sides on this issue.”

Also on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia has always been in favor of a peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian crisis, which emerged as a result of an absolutely unceremonious policy of the United States in charge of its satellites.

Speaking at the SCO summit, Putin said, “Russia has always spoke in favor of the political and diplomatic resolution of the situation in Ukraine, the crisis, which emerged as a result of the absolutely unceremonious policy of the United States in charge of its satellites.”

“We have repeatedly put on the negotiations table our concrete proposals regarding this issue,” the Russian President added.

Last month, the Russian leader said at a meeting with the Foreign Ministry’s senior staff that Russia was ready for settling the Ukraine crisis, which implied recognizing the status of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Regions as Russian territories, stipulating Ukraine’s non-aligned and nuclear-free status, its demilitarization and denazification and lifting anti-Russia sanctions.

U.S Military Aid To Cause More Deaths

Separately, Russian Ambassador in Washington, Anatoly Antonov said that the US administration continues to push for war, while its latest package of military aid to Ukraine will only lead to more innocent deaths.

Commenting on the US move to direct more than $2 bln in additional military aid to Kyiv, Antonov said, “The [US] administration continues the war course as it chases the illusory dream of inflicting a strategic defeat on Russia.”

“Meanwhile, the recent proposals toward resolving the conflict and achieving peace put forward by the Russian president have been rejected,” the envoy said.

“It is obvious that additional US weapons will not reduce the intensity of our fight for Ukraine’s liberation. But they will only lead to more civilian deaths, including women and children,” Antonov emphasized.

He lambasted the dead-end project to pump more weapons into what he called the dying regime of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, encouraging Ukrainian terrorists to commit more crimes.

According to the Russian Ambassador, the US wants to show its unwavering commitment to defending the unraveling world order based on American rules in the run up to a NATO summit in Washington.

“The United States is balancing on the brink of conflict with Russia, the [world’s] largest nuclear power. The impression is that [officials] here do not think about the global consequences of a disaster that is drawing ever closer due to Washington’s short-sighted and dangerous policies.”

“They will not be able to hide across the ocean,” Antonov warned.
