In a significant diplomatic statement, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice of Ghana, Godfred Dame, has assured the United States and the international community that the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for 7 December 2024 will be conducted freely, fairly, and transparently.

Mr. Dame highlighted the global significance of the year 2024, noting that approximately 64 countries, including Ghana and the United States, are slated to hold national elections. He hoped these elections would proceed without the challenges that often cast doubts on electoral outcomes.

“The Government of Ghana assures the United States of America and the entire international community of its commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s upcoming elections will be peaceful, transparent, free, and fair.”

The Attorney-General also highlighted the robust bilateral relations between the United States and Ghana, particularly in the areas of security and economic cooperation. He welcomed the US government’s recent 10-year plan aimed at supporting efforts to address terrorism and violent extremism in Africa.

“The United States and Ghana have worked together to enhance regional security, combat terrorism, and promote peacekeeping efforts. Joint training programmes and capacity-building initiatives have strengthened the capacities of our security forces and contributed to greater stability in the region.”
