The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has released a press statement following the callouts from the Muslim community over an upcoming Nollywood movie that features Nancy Isime.

Nancy had, via her Instagram page, promoted her upcoming project.

In photos she posted online, the talented movie star was captured wearing a niqab and holding a gun in some of the photos, and in another photo, she was captured with her cast members, one of whom wore a hijab for a robbery scene.

Not pleased with the photos, a Muslim lady via her TikTok page lashed out at the actress for disrespecting her, her religion, and everything that she represents.

She educated the movie star on what the niqab represents and why it shouldn’t be used as a costume to promote despicable things in society.

The lady expressed how sick and tired she was of people who do not share the same values, using their outfits for their selfish interests.

Addressing the issue in a press statement on their official Instagram page, the board stated that the movie hasn’t been released, nor has it been submitted to them by law and their mandate.

However, they have been able to reach the film’s producers and have taken steps to address the concerns raised by the producers.

“The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), the statutory regulatory agency for film and video works as well as exhibition and distribution in Nigeria, has received complaints about an upcoming Nigerian movie that associated the Hijab, an outfit attributed to Muslim women that symbolizes respect, modesty, and religious devotion, with negative moral vices.”

Press statement

The board restates that as a classification agency, they will not overlook any film or video works, including dramatized short constants (skits) that abuse, denigrate, or undermine religious, cultural, and ethnic sensibilities.

“We commit to contributing to the positive transformation of the Nigerian society through the classification of films and video works whilst balancing the need to preserve freedom of expression within the law and limit social, cultural, and religious harm caused by films,” The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) added in the press statement.

Nigerian film star and show host, Nancy Isime finally broke her silence in the face of allegations and backlashes against her.

The actress who has been in the news lately was initially called out by the controversial IG blog which accused her of having an amorous relationship with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Subsequently, she was also criticized heavily by some Muslims for wearing a niqab on a movie set.

In light of these controversies, Nancy Isime reiterated how unperturbed she is by the noise online. Via her Instagram page, she shared new photos of herself along with some interesting captions.

“Really out the way. In my own world. No drama, no gossip. Just goals and money. Peace is where I’m at. I don’t bother nobody & I’m not bothered by anybody. That’s my peace. To protect my peace, I stopped taking other people’s projected opinions personally.

“Reminder: Your light often highlights other people’s insecurities and shortcomings, which they will then project back to you as a flaw. It’s a coping mechanism. Attacking you makes them feel safer.”

“ISIME BABY!!😍 OMO OLOGO 5G!!!😄🥰 THE BRIGHTEST LIGHT!!!!💡 THE CITY ON A HILL THAT CAN NEVER BE HIDDEN!!!!!⭐️ THE NANCY ISIME!!👑 BIG NAME, BIG FORCE!!!🔥” Nancy Isime added.

Fans in the comments were ready to go to war for her, as they trooped to support her, asking her not to apologize to the Muslim community for any reason while condemning the statement that the Muslim lady made.

“Nancy, Please don’t apologize for anything or whatsoever. The same thing Bokoharm are using to kill. You’re harmless and just doing it for entertainment purposes. Nonsense people.”

@rejoice_johnson22

“Nancy should apologize to the Muslim community and quit acting too so there won’t be war. Nancy: Gwo gwo gwo ngwo.”

onyekachi_tonni

“If these people bark too much, we will leak all the nude videos their Muslim sisters are doing with that so-called Niqab and Hijab…. I’ve got lots of them….”
