Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2024 general elections, has urged all eligible voters, particularly those turning 18, to participate in the upcoming Electoral Commission’s mop-up voter registration exercise.

In his address, the flagbearer and leader of the opposition party emphasized the power and importance of each vote, describing it as a right and a tool for change.

He called on Ghanaians to rally behind the National Democratic Congress and vote against the ruling New Patriotic Party administration in the December 7 general elections.

Mr Mahama particularly appealed directly to the youth and unregistered voters, underscoring the importance of participating in the democratic process.

“Welcome to a new month, my fellow Ghanaians, brothers, and sisters. The time to reset our dear country is getting close. I want to urge all 18-year-olds, including all eligible voters yet to register with the Electoral Commission of Ghana, to #RegisterforChange.

” The mop-up voter registration exercise begins today, August 1st, and ends on Saturday, August 3rd;Three days”.

Furthermore, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer, former President John Dramani outlined his vision for a better Ghana under his leadership, promising significant improvements in various sectors.

He emphasized that when elected as President of the country, he shall work with Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, his running mate, from January 07, 2025 to improve the standard of living and the wellbeing of all Ghanaians.

Among several expectations and policies, the National Democratic Congress flagbearer indicated that his administration, when elected will work to create decent and well-paying jobs through the 24-hour economy initiative.

His message also highlighted the National Democratic Congress’s commitment to promoting gender equality, enhancing the free Senior High School (SHS) programme, and tackling corruption head-on.

“You’re also assured of gender equality, an improved free SHS programme, and a relentless fight against injustice and corruption,” Mahama assured.

He concluded by encouraging Ghanaians, especially young people to register, underscoring the critical need for all citizens, particularly the youth to take an active role in shaping the future of the country.

The mop-up voter registration exercise is a critical step in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. The Electoral Commission of Ghana has ensured that this exercise will be conducted smoothly across all 268 district offices, 41 prison centres, and 26 public universities.

This wide reach aims to capture all eligible voters who may have missed the initial registration phases.

The mop-up voter registration exercise from August 1st to August 3rd is a pivotal moment for the nation, adding to several activities conducted by the electoral commission of Ghana ahead of the 2024 general elections.

In an earlier, statement, Dr. Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the opposition National Democratic Congress urged the party’s agents across the country to exercise heightened vigilance in the Mop-Up Voter Registration Exercise.

He emphasized that the need for increased vigilance, stressed by the party’s leadership, is due to the fact that the existing voter register, which the Electoral Commission claims has 18,681,366 registered voters, is fundamentally flawed and unreliable.

Dr. Omane Boamah maintained that NDC agents must remain vigilant, as the EC has still not addressed the significant discrepancies in their voter numbers that the NDC highlighted during the previous IPAC meeting, and has yet to provide a formal response to these concerns.

He pointed out that, surprisingly, the Electoral Commission is moving forward with another voter registration exercise, disregarding the serious concerns and objections raised by the NDC during the last IPAC meeting.
