Pillars of Ghana Condemns Government’s Officials for Acquiring State Properties

The Pillars of Ghana Cadres, a prominent advocacy group within the National Democratic Congress, has issued a vehement condemnation of what it describes as the ongoing trend of members of the ruling party acquiring state properties for personal gain.

This practice, they argued, constitutes a gross abuse of power and a betrayal of public trust. Prince Henry, Communications Officer of the Pillars of Ghana Cadres, in a statement, highlighted numerous instances where high-ranking officials have been implicated in dubious transactions involving state assets.

Mr Henry described these acts as a direct attack on the principles of good governance and a significant hindrance to the country’s national development.

“These actions are not just isolated incidents but rather a systematic exploitation of state resources. Politicians, especially the NPP appointees who engage in these unethical practices, are prioritizing their wealth over the needs and rights of the Ghanaian people.”

His statement further pointed out recent investigations and media reports, which have uncovered several cases where politicians and their associates have acquired prime state properties at below-market prices.

These acquisitions, facilitated through questionable processes, according to the NDC Pillars of Ghana Cadres raise serious concerns about the transparency and accountability of those in power.

The NDC Pillars of Ghana Cadres’ statement stressed that such transactions are a direct attack on the principles of good governance and a significant hindrance to national development.

Furthermore, Prince Henry, Communications Officer of the Pillars of Ghana Cadres indicated that the illegal appropriation of state properties by politicians has far-reaching consequences for Ghana’s socio-economic development.

He emphasized that these actions deprive the state of valuable assets that could be utilized for public projects and services, ultimately affecting the country’s growth and progress.

“State properties are meant to serve the public interest, not to line the pockets of a few privileged individuals. The apparent appropriation of state assets by political leaders undermines public confidence in the country’s institutions and erodes the foundation of its democracy.”

A Fervent Call to Action

In a fervent call to action, the Pillars of Ghana Cadres urged relevant state institutions, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), to thoroughly investigate these allegations and hold those responsible accountable.

The group also called on the government to implement stricter measures to prevent the recurrence of such practices in the future.

Additionally, the Pillars of Ghana Cadress highlighted the crucial role of citizens in addressing this menace. Prince Henry, Communications Officer of the Pillars of Ghana Cadres encouraged all citizens and the general public to remain vigilant and to actively participate in the fight against corruption.

He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities involving state properties and to demand greater accountability from their leaders, underscoring the critical need for reforms in Ghana’s governance framework.

Mr Prince Henry stressed that by addressing these issues head-on and promoting a culture of transparency and accountability, Ghana can pave the way for sustainable development and a brighter future for all its citizens.

The Pillars of Ghana’s advocacy reflects a broader call for integrity and responsibility in public office, aiming to restore trust and confidence in the country’s democratic institutions.

The acquisition of state assets, particularly state lands by key government officials and exposed political leaders in the country has become a matter of public concerns in recent times following recent exposee made by Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency.

In a decisive move aimed at curbing the exploitation of state resources by politicians, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency and other members of parliament from both the caucuses have proposed a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament.

The bill according to the National Democratic Congress lawmaker will seek to expressly prevent politicians and politically exposed persons from participating, either directly or indirectly, in the acquisition of state assets.
