NPP Accuses NDC of Policy Theft Ahead of Manifesto Launch

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign Team, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its flagbearer, John Mahama, of persistently stealing policies and ideas from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Miracles Aboagye’s allegations come just days before the NPP is set to unveil its 2024 manifesto, intensifying the political discourse as Ghana heads toward the general elections.

“It is public knowledge that the NDC consistently steals from the NPP in terms of ideas. You cannot give me even one evidence of the NPP stealing any idea from the NDC.”

Miracles Aboagye’s accusations focused on the NDC’s approach to policy formulation, accusing them of lacking originality and waiting for the NPP to release its manifesto before crafting their own.

“We’ve had an opposition leader who has been in that role for close to eight years. A de facto flag bearer who has been a perennial leader of the NDC.

“Now, he sits down, we elected our flagbearer in November, barely seven, eight months ago, and he’s going to launch his manifesto on Sunday [18 August]. The NDC leader still has not given an indication of when he’s going to launch his manifesto.”

Miracles Aboagye further claimed that the NDC is strategically delaying its manifesto launch to capitalize on the NPP’s ideas. He alleged that the NDC waits for the NPP to reveal its policies before attempting to replicate them, often with superficial modifications.

“Whatever we propose, such as creating one million jobs, they counter with a promise to create two million jobs,” Miracles Aboagye explained, illustrating the NDC’s pattern of policy mimicry without genuine innovation. The NPP spokesperson labeled his party as the victim of this alleged policy theft.

As the NPP gears up to launch its 2024 manifesto in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Miracles Aboagye shared insights into what Ghanaians can expect from the party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The manifesto, according to Miracles Aboagye, will heavily emphasize job creation and economic expansion, building on the progress made by the NPP in recent years.

He acknowledged the economic challenges the country has faced, particularly in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and global events like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which have strained the economy.

“Mahamudu Bawumia’s preoccupation in the Manifesto for 2024 is to say, let’s expand the economy, create a resilient economy that can withstand a lot more than it did when COVID struck in 2020.”

The manifesto is expected to introduce policies aimed at boosting businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), by creating an enabling environment and reducing taxes.

“About two, three weeks ago, the President launched the SME fund, which is geared towards providing the needed financing to our small and medium enterprises, so they can have the right capacity to produce more,” Miracles Aboagye highlighted.

Dr. Bawumia’s manifesto, according to Aboagye, will advocate for a comprehensive tax reduction system, including the removal of the A-level tax and medicine tax. He encouraged business owners to anticipate these changes, which he believes will enable businesses to thrive and subsequently create more employment opportunities.

As the NPP prepares to reveal its vision for the future, Aboagye’s remarks set the stage for a competitive election season, with both major parties vying for the trust and votes of Ghanaians.

The launch of the NPP’s manifesto on Sunday is expected to further define the political landscape as the nation moves closer to the 2024 general elections.
