Illegal Mining In Ghana

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign, has stated that the NDC is evidently a major contributor to the Galamsey problem in Ghana.

Aboagye stated that the NDC’s actions are hindering the country’s efforts to combat Galamsey, making it a challenging task.

He noted that by visiting Galamsey sites and encouraging individuals to engage in these illegal activities, the NDC is effectively perpetuating these criminalities.

Barker-Vormawor Calls Out GTEC’s Overreach on Dr. Ayensua’s Professorship

“When they continue to assure them to vote for them so they will come to the government to protect them and allow them to continue the galamsey, it makes it difficult”.

“The sad part of this is how they come to the public to call our government and accuse the government of inability to end this menace, and then they rush to the galamsey sites to encourage them not to stop galamsey”.

Aboagye acknowledged that Ghana grapples with various challenges, but he emphasized that the NDC has emerged as a major hindrance to the country’s development.

The opposition’s actions, he implied, are a significant problem that Ghana must address to move forward.

The NPP Communicator lamented that, due to Ghana’s democratic system, the government is limited in its ability to take drastic measures against the NDC, and can only “manage the NDC”.

As such, he urged Ghanaians to vote against the NDC, accusing them of being primary facilitators of the Galamsey problem, which has devastating environmental and social consequences.

Aboagye excoriated the NDC for their lack of transparency and sincerity in tackling the galamsey menace, arguing that their words and actions are woefully inconsistent.

He alleged that their plan is to allow and even encourage more illegal mining activities, rather than providing a genuine solution to the problem.

Aboagye Endorses Bawumia’s Galamsey Plan

Furthermore, Dennis Miracles Aboagye encouraged the public to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has presented a comprehensive plan to tackle galamsey.

Aboagye indicated that Dr. Bawumia’s strategy involves redirecting the energies of those engaged in galamsey into safe and legal mining practices, ensuring a more sustainable and responsible approach to mining.

“[These strategies include]: Minerals Development Bank to support with financing; A decentralized and convenient licensing regime to ease access to concessions by the locals; Provide Data to make it easy to identify when the gold is, in the land”.

“Buy the Mined Gold from the people to grind the country’s reserves through the Gold Backed cedi program to boost the strength of our currency”.

Aboagye added that Dr. Bawumia’s administration is committed to rapidly expanding the community mining program, with the goal of covering more districts and effectively eradicating galamsey.

This accelerated rollout, he stated, will enable more communities to benefit from legal and sustainable mining practices, further reducing the incidence of illegal mining.

Aboagye further emphasized that under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, the government will prioritize the provision of safe and environmentally friendly mining equipment to communities.

He maintained that this initiative will empower mining communities to engage in responsible mining practices that do not harm river bodies and forests.

Aboagye lavished praise on Dr. Bawumia’s visionary approach to the mining sector, describing it as a bold, clear, and meticulously crafted plan that demonstrates a deep understanding of the industry’s complexities and potential.

Meanwhile, Prof. Ransford Gyampo took issue with the NPP’s claim that the NDC has caused more pollution to water bodies than the NPP, dismissing it as a flawed argument that fails to acknowledge the complexities of environmental degradation.

Prof. Gyampo expressed disappointment that an educated MP, elected to provide thoughtful leadership and solutions, would make such an oversimplified statement, which fails to address the complexities of the issue.

“Governance is too serious a business to be left in the hands of just anybody” – Prof. Ransford Gyampo
