Ghanaian Afrofusion twins, Lali and Lola have shared the challenges of maintaining their signature vibrant red hair. The twins, known for their striking red braids, see this distinctive look as vital to their showbiz branding.

However, it has not been entirely embraced, with some Ghanaians perceiving it as a “bad girl” symbol due to prevailing stereotypes.

Lali and Lola recounted their unusual experiences because of their hair. They disclosed that they were once stopped and searched by the police simply because of their red hair.

“They see the red hair and they have this assumption, that the police actually stopped us to search. They took us out of our car and searched us thoroughly. I don’t know what they were searching for. They searched everywhere, even in our bags.”

They also described how their unique look makes them easily recognizable in public. “There’s no hiding for us. We were once at Makola Market, and someone still identified and tapped us on the shoulder,” they said.

Despite these challenges, Lali and Lola highlighted the positive aspects of maintaining their unique hairstyle.

“Red is a vibrant color and you never get tired of it. We needed something people could identify us with. When they see two red-headed people passing by they know it’s us. Even when we’re on stage and there’s no screen you can see its Lali and Lola.

“It’s a good branding for us, people see us and they remember us. Even the big brands like Telecel have got red as their official color.”

The Ghanaian music duo also shared their unique experiences as twins. The female twin singers revealed some intriguing aspects of their lives and their telepathic connection.

Lali and Lola talked about their ability to communicate mentally and sense each other’s thoughts without words or physical signals.

They described how they can intuitively respond to situations in unison.

“When we enter into a room and something is expected to happen or has happened, we’ll know. If I enter first, I’ll react in a certain way and ask certain questions. My sister will enter the same room and ask the same questions I asked. We know what we’re thinking at certain times, even right now.”

The ‘No Delay’ hitmakers also discussed how their striking resemblance often leads to confusion about their identities.

“Sometimes too, people confuse our identities,” they noted.

Patricia Delali Dake (Lali) and Trysha Wolali Dake (Lola) officially began their music career in September 2021, although they have been dancers since childhood.

They were recently nominated in the ‘Unsung’ category at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Their latest EP, ‘Water and Flow’, was released on August 24, 2024, and they held a concert that was witnessed by the likes of Efya, DSL, and Maya Blu among others.

Lali and Lola shared how their father, who also serves as their manager, has protected them from negativity in the showbiz industry in Ghana.

The sisters described growing up in a democratic household where open communication was encouraged.

“It’s an open space where you can speak your mind. And if it’s wrong, they will correct you. We tell him everything; he knows everything; we don’t hide anything from him. He is like our bestie.”

They further explained that their father’s presence gives them a sense of security and respect, especially in the challenging showbiz industry.

They added that his protective nature ensures they remain focused on their craft, as he often shields them from unnecessary drama.

“One thing that deflects half of the nonsense that comes our way is because our father is with us. There is a level of respect we get when we enter a room with our father.

“Sometimes he doesn’t even tell us the things he hears because he doesn’t want us to be stressed. He would be the one to face everything.”
