The Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, has reiterated the Authority’s dedication to bolstering Ghana’s industrial sector through sustainable energy supply and innovative energy solutions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition (GISE), organized by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) in partnership with the VRA, Mr. Antwi-Darkwa expressed the Authority’s continued efforts to meet the power demands of Ghana’s industries in a reliable and environmentally friendly manner.

In his address, Mr. Antwi-Darkwa stressed that providing businesses with dependable and affordable energy is essential for their smooth operation and global competitiveness. He noted that by enabling industries to access reliable power, the VRA is positioning itself as a key player in fostering industrial development in Ghana.

“Over the years, the VRA has made significant investments in increasing its energy generation capacity. We have integrated renewable energy sources and explored innovative solutions that will not only meet the current energy demands of industries but also cater to their evolving needs.”

Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA)

The VRA’s focus on renewable energy is part of a broader strategy to ensure that Ghana’s energy supply is sustainable and in line with international climate goals. By diversifying its energy mix and incorporating clean energy sources such as solar and wind, the VRA seeks to reduce its carbon footprint while providing reliable energy to Ghana’s industries.

In an address read on his behalf by the Deputy Chief Executive (Finance), Dr. Ebenezer Tagoe, Mr. Antwi-Darkwa highlighted the VRA’s substantial investments in expanding energy generation capacity, integrating renewable energy sources, and exploring advanced solutions to power Ghana’s growing industrial base.

The event, which runs from September 16–18, 2024, is taking place under the theme “Promoting Value Chains for Competitive Industrial Development” and serves as a platform for the private sector to engage with policymakers, investors, and other industry players on critical matters related to local content, industrial value chains, and economic growth.

One of the key highlights of the summit was the VRA’s launch of a suite of Value-Added Services designed to help industries optimize their energy use. These services are intended to assist businesses in reducing operational costs, improving energy efficiency, and enhancing overall productivity.

The VRA’s leadership emphasized that the Authority is not only focused on generating energy but also on helping industries maximize their energy usage through customized solutions.

Mr. Antwi-Darkwa assured industry leaders that the VRA remains committed to delivering power solutions that are clean, affordable, and tailored to the specific needs of businesses.

“The energy solutions we provide are designed to meet the high standards of reliability, affordability, and sustainability required by industries.

“Our goal is to contribute significantly to the development of value chains that can compete globally, and we are committed to playing our part in ensuring that the energy we provide aligns with the needs of Ghana’s industrial sector.”

Mr. Antwi-Darkwa

This assurance comes at a time when the industrial sector is seeking to ramp up production and increase efficiency, particularly in areas like manufacturing, mining, and agriculture. Reliable energy is critical to these sectors’ success, and the VRA’s commitment to providing such energy is expected to bolster investor confidence and spur industrial growth.

Investing in renewable energy, expanding generation capacity, and introducing innovative services tailored to the needs of industries, the VRA is well-positioned to contribute to the growth of Ghana’s industrial value chains and enhance the country’s global competitiveness.

The 2024 Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition provided a timely platform for these discussions, as stakeholders work together to promote local content, build value chains, and shape the future of Ghana’s industrial landscape. With the VRA at the forefront of these efforts, Ghana’s industrial sector is poised to benefit from a more sustainable, efficient, and innovative energy supply.
