‘Piece of My Heart’ follows the second installment of Wizkid’s extended play (EP) ‘Soundman‘, which featured collaborations with colleagues like Zlatan Ibile and Wande Coal.

The unreleased album is titled ‘Morayo’, his mother’s middle name. Wizkid opened up on the personal significance of his forthcoming album, which is dedicated to his mother.

He described the album as deeply personal, expressing hopes that it will uplift listeners and spread positive vibes.

Wizkid revealed that ‘Morayo’ is not an Afrobeats project. However, Wizkid has yet to announce the release date for the album.

In other news, Wizkid stirred up conflicting reactions online following his time out with his junior colleague Ahmed Ololade, also known as Asake.

The two stars stepped out for the YBNL signee’s concert in London, and various videos circulated on the internet showing them in a boogie mood.

However, one of the clips appears to have piqued the interest of many after Wizkid was heard telling Asake not to be humble.

In the bustling noise and loud music in the prairie premises, the Afrobeats superstar shook the Lungu Boy crooner on the shoulder and shouted, “Ma humble, ma humble,” which translated to “Don’t be humble, don’t be humble.”

“Once a young man has money, there’s that tendency all around him not to stay humble. It’s just natural and it’s in every rich young man. He mustn’t be told before he knows this.”

Spotify, an online streaming platform, celebrated Wizkid’s “Ojuelegba” 10th anniversary.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub Saharan Africa, in a statement in Lagos, said the song had so far recorded over 55 million streams since its release.

Okumu said Spotify had released a special anniversary film to celebrate this milestone, capturing the song’s influence and journey over the years.

“Today marks the 10th anniversary of Wizkid’s groundbreaking single, ‘Ojuelegba’, a song that helped define the global rise of Afrobeats and continues to resonate with millions of listeners around the world. Since its release in 2014, ‘Ojuelegba’ has achieved more than 55 million streams on Spotify, hitting that milestone in April 2024.

“From reaching one million streams in August 2015 to crossing the 10 million mark by January 2018, Ojuelegba’s journey to over 55 million streams on Spotify a decade later, reflects the global growth of Afrobeats and its increasing presence on the world stage.”

Phiona Okumu

Spotify’s Head of Music further noted that the song’s success stems from its strong and widespread popularity across diverse markets, adding that over the last decade, Spotify data shows an impressive global reach for “Ojuelegba”.

“The United States, United Kingdom, France, Nigeria, and the Netherlands are the top five countries streaming the song. During this time, the song has solidified Wizkid’s legacy as one of Africa’s most influential artists.”

Phiona Okumu

Okumu noted that Spotify’s data revealed the city streaming ‘Ojuelegba’ the most as Lagos, particularly in August.

She explained that the song paid homage to ‘Ojuelegba’, one of the most popular places in Lagos.
