Ghana’s Development Strides: The Role Of The Youth

Oliver-Barker-Vormawor-Fix-the-Country-Movement

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, Convener of the Fix the Country Movement, has dismissed reports that the Ghana Police Service is conducting a manhunt for him.

According to Barker-Vormawor, the claims of a police manhunt for him are completely unfounded and misleading.

He emphasized that he has maintained consistent communication with senior officers within the Ghana Police Service regarding his location and availability.

Barker-Vormawor clarified that there has been no attempt to evade the authorities, and he has been transparent about his movements, making any assertion of a manhunt baseless.

He called on the public to disregard these reports, which he believes are intended to misinform and create unnecessary alarm

“It has come to my attention that the Ghana Police Service has issued press statements suggesting that they are on a manhunt for me, thereby creating the false impression that I am on the run”.

“In light of these developments, I have instructed my lawyers to urgently engage with the Ghana Police Service to seek clarification on which specific police station or office they wish me to report to”.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Barker-Vormawor stated that his legal team is fully prepared to cooperate with the authorities and will be reaching out to the relevant officials to determine the necessary steps moving forward.

He emphasized their readiness to engage with the appropriate channels to ensure clarity and compliance with any legal requirements.

This proactive approach, according to Barker-Vormawor, underscores his commitment to transparency and adherence to the legal process.

According to the Social Activist, he remains firmly committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that any issues raised by the Police are addressed in accordance with due process.

He emphasizes that respect for legal procedures is essential not only for maintaining justice but also for protecting the rights of all individuals involved.

Barker-Vormawor expressed hope that this engagement with law enforcement will lead to greater transparency and understanding.

He believes that open communication and a collaborative approach can help clarify any misunderstandings and lay to rest any misinformation that may have arisen.

Barker-Vormawor Condemns Arrest of Co-Convener

Furthermore, Oliver Barker-Vormawor strongly condemned the arrest of Felicity Nelson, one of the founding and lead conveners of the Fix the Country Movement, describing it as unjustified.

He emphasized that such actions undermine the principles of justice and democracy, calling for immediate accountability and transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding her arrest.

“Felicity Nelson has been a voice for gender justice and a person whose lived experiences ground her activism. She understands the gendered effects of the environmental crisis that is Galamsey; and stepped out to advocate for others”.

Oliver Barker-Vormawor

Barker-Vormawor stated that Felicity Nelson chose to protest out of a profound understanding of the pressing issues and the urgent eis Ghana are currently facing.

He highlighted her commitment to advocating for change and raising awareness about the critical challenges that demand immediate attention.

Accordingly, he indicated that the Fix the Country Movement and the Democracy Hub are united in their demand for Felicity Nelson’s unconditional release.

They believe that her arrest is not only unjust but also a direct threat to the fundamental principles of free expression and peaceful assembly.

By calling for her immediate release, these organizations seek to reaffirm their commitment to democratic values and the right of individuals to advocate for change without fear of retribution.

This collective action underscores the movement’s determination to stand against any attempts to silence voices advocating for social justice and environmental responsibility.

They emphasize that the right to protest is a cornerstone of democracy and that all citizens should be able to express their concerns and demands freely.

The Fix the Country Movement and the Democracy Hub are resolute in their stance, calling on authorities to respect civil liberties and uphold the rule of law in order to foster a more just and equitable society.
