Joyce Bawah Mogtari on Mahama Cares

Joyce Bawah Mogtari

Joyce Mogtari Bawah, the Special Aide to John Mahama, the NDC flagbearer, emphasizes that Ghana must intensify its efforts to promote women’s participation and empowerment in all facets of governance, with a particular focus on enhancing their role in decision-making processes.

Bawah asserts that achieving meaningful progress requires a committed approach to ensuring that women’s voices are heard and valued at all levels of leadership.

She noted that this initiative is crucial not only for advancing gender equality but also for fostering more effective and representative governance in the country.

“Merely passing the Affirmative Action Act and having women make up 52% of the population is not sufficient. We must actively and intentionally target women for key roles in government, recognizing their invaluable contributions to our society”.

Joyce Mogtari Bawah

Joyce Bawah further highlighted that John Mahama has set a precedent by renominating the esteemed Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his vice-presidential candidate, signalling a commitment to gender equity in leadership.

This move, according to Bawah, positions them on a ticket that is increasingly seen as a strong contender to form the next government, reflecting a vision of inclusive governance that prioritizes the representation of women at the highest levels of decision-making.

The NDC stalwart indicated that this development serves as a significant and bold indicator that Ghana may soon see the election of its first female president.

She stated that by nominating Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang as his vice-presidential candidate, John Mahama not only champions gender equality but also paves the way for women to ascend to the highest echelons of political leadership.

Bawah indicated that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s nomination reflects a growing recognition of women’s capabilities and contributions to governance, suggesting a shifting political landscape where gender barriers are increasingly challenged.

As such Bawah stated that the support for Opoku-Agyemang’s candidacy could inspire a new generation of female leaders and encourage voters to embrace the idea of women in top political roles.

NDC Pledges Women’s Development Bank In 2024

Furthermore, Joyce Mogtari Bawah emphasized that as part of the NDC’s commitment to advancing gender equality, the party has pledged in its 2024 manifesto to establish a Women’s Development Bank.

This initiative aims to provide targeted financial support and resources for women entrepreneurs, fostering economic empowerment and facilitating greater access to capital.

By prioritizing the establishment of this bank, the NDC demonstrates its dedication to creating an enabling environment for women to thrive in business and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

According to Bawah, this strategic move reflects a broader vision of inclusive development that recognizes and leverages the potential of women to drive progress within the country.

“This institution will be dedicated to empowering women by strategically funding enterprises owned and led by them. It will be a project spearheaded by women, managed by women, and will operate under the leadership of Ghana’s first female Vice President. This initiative will not only create jobs but also make a bold impact on the lives of women in Ghana”.

Joyce Mogtari Bawah

Accordingly, Joyce Bawah urged Ghanaian women who support a government committed to promoting gender equality should vote for John Mahama and Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang during the December elections.

She highlighted that this ticket not only champions the women’s agenda but also represents a party that genuinely advocates for women’s rights and empowerment.

Bawah emphasized that supporting this ticket is not just a moral imperative; it is also a recognition of the significant contributions women make to society.

The NDC Communicator indicated that women have consistently demonstrated their efficiency and productivity in various roles, and electing Mahama and Opoku-Agyemang would further reinforce the commitment to harnessing their potential for national development.

She noted that supporting women is a crucial step toward advancing development in Ghana.

According to Bawah, by prioritizing gender equality and empowering women, the nation can unlock its full potential, driving economic growth and social progress.
