Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Vice Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on Ghanaians to prioritize competence and qualifications over religious or ethnic affiliations when casting their votes in the upcoming general elections.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as “NAPO,” stressed that the future of the country hinges on selecting a leader with the right capabilities to sustain the progress made over the past eight years.

During a campaign tour of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted the critical need for a capable leader at this juncture in Ghana’s political history.

“In voting for the next president of our dear country, I’m urging you to cast your ballots for the person who can sustain the gains that have been achieved in the last eight years.

“Ghana needs strong leadership that can guide the country toward further development and prosperity.”

His remarks come at a time when the nation gears up for the next presidential election, with various candidates vying for the highest office in the land. He urged voters to carefully consider the expertise and experience of the candidates, rather than focusing on their religious backgrounds or ethnic ties.

In his address, Dr. Opoku Prempeh voiced his strong support for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the most competent individual to lead the nation.

NAPO highlighted that Bawumia’s track record as an economist and public servant stands as proof of his ability to steer the country in the right direction. He emphasized that voters should focus on his expertise and achievements rather than his religious affiliation, reinforcing the message that a leader’s competence should take precedence over other considerations.

“The competence of the person leading the nation is what will ensure that the progress made is not only maintained but also expanded. Dr. Bawumia has the knowledge, skills, and experience to do this, and that is why he is the right choice.”

NAPO believes that Dr. Bawumia, as a key architect of several of these initiatives, is the best candidate to sustain and build upon these accomplishments.

He specifically pointed to Bawumia’s role in advancing digital transformation in Ghana, which has been a cornerstone of the government’s efforts to modernize the economy and improve public services.

Call for Informed Decision-Making

Speaking on the importance of unity among Ghanaians, Dr. Opoku Prempeh stated, “Chiefs are neither Muslims nor pastors, but they give their lands for the establishment of churches and mosques for worship, and that is the beauty of being a Ghanaian.”

“We respect each other because what unites us as Ghanaians is bigger and greater than any other thing. We should, therefore, be guided by this by voting for competence.”

Dr. Opoku Prempeh pleaded with voters to prioritize competence over religious beliefs or backgrounds for effective governance in Ghana.

He noted that while religious tolerance and diversity are core values of the nation, the ability of a leader to govern effectively and implement policies that will improve the lives of the people should be the foremost consideration during the elections.

“We should not be swayed by where a person is coming from or his or her religion. What is important is what the person can do as President to lead our country into prosperity.”

Throughout his speech, NAPO emphasized the importance of informed decision-making among voters. He encouraged Ghanaians to critically evaluate the policies, vision, and skills of the presidential candidates.

By doing so, he believes that the nation can elect a leader who is well-equipped to address the pressing challenges and continue the trajectory of growth and development.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s remarks also underscored the achievements of the NPP government over the past eight years, particularly under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia.

In addition to his call for competence, Dr. Opoku Prempeh highlighted the importance of national unity in the lead-up to the elections. He remarked that Ghanaians, despite their diverse religious and cultural backgrounds, share a common destiny and a desire for progress.

This unity, he noted, should serve as a reminder that the focus should be on electing a leader who can deliver results for all citizens.

NAPO encouraged the electorate to put aside any divisions based on religion or ethnicity and concentrate on the bigger picture—selecting a leader with the vision and ability to lead Ghana into a prosperous future. He expressed optimism that Ghanaians would come together to make the right choice in the upcoming elections.
