The Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on Ghanaians to embrace the Fourth Industrial Revolution, particularly the importance of digitalization.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the growing empirical evidence demonstrating the transformative potential of digital innovation to create jobs, enhance productivity, and increase income levels.

Speaking at the launch of the Citizen App on Monday 7th October 2024, he underscored that the Akufo-Addo administration has effectively positioned digitization as a central pillar of its economic strategy.

“Recognising that the fourth industrial revolution is already happening and it is reshaping global landscapes.

“As a country, that has missed the previous three revolutions that many nations took advantage of to become developed countries. We must not miss the fourth industrial revolution. We must seize the opportunities that this fourth revolution presents”.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The Vice President emphasized that digitalization is a cornerstone of Ghana’s economic strategy, championed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.

He underscored the importance of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, highlighting how digital innovation is reshaping global economies and creating new opportunities for growth.

Dr. Bawumia affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that Ghana fully embraces this transformative shift, fostering a more inclusive and technologically advanced society for all citizens.

Meanwhile, the Citizen App, designed as a comprehensive and user-friendly platform, will empower citizens to easily access a wide range of government services, report issues, and receive real-time updates on important public matters.

Dr. Bawumia described the app as a tailored solution designed to meet the diverse needs of all Ghanaians, greatly improving convenience and transparency in their interactions with government agencies.

He emphasized that the app’s user-friendly interface and accessibility make it easier for citizens to access essential services, fostering a more inclusive and efficient government-citizen relationship.

He emphasized that the app is not just a digital solution but a vital resource for fostering civic engagement.

This initiative represents a significant step toward promoting greater accountability, encouraging active citizen participation, and ultimately building a more connected and informed society.

Dr. Bawumia Highlights App’s Role in Streamlining Governance

Furthermore, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emphasized the app’s potential to streamline administrative processes, minimize bureaucratic hurdles, and enhance transparency and accountability across government operations.

He noted that this digital tool is a critical step toward creating a more efficient and responsive governance system for all Ghanaians, ultimately improving service delivery, reducing corruption, and fostering public trust.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the importance of leveraging technology in modern governance to ensure that citizens have easier access to services, which would, in turn, promote economic growth and national development.

“What Ghana has done many advanced countries have not yet done it. So we are moving in a direction that has major opportunities…Once the system comes in doing business in Ghana will be very easy and smooth, paying taxes will be very easy, getting your passport, will be very easy, registering a business is very easy.”

According to the Vice President, the Citizen App will significantly enhance the quality of life for citizens by providing easier access to services and information. “This is an exciting development in our digitalization journey”.

He added that the system also enables seamless communication between the government and the public, ensuring that citizens stay informed and engaged with government initiatives and updates.

According to the government, the app serves as a launchpad for Ghana’s vision of becoming a leader in Africa’s digital transformation.

Hon. Amin Adams, Minister of Finance also stressed that the CitizenApp is designed to accelerate the country’s technological advancements, positioning Ghana as a trailblazer in digital innovation and governance across the continent.

“As we continue to modernize our public financial management systems, we are confident that this app will help us strengthen fiscal resilience and unlock new avenues for sustainable development”.
