Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, MP for Builsa South, has authorized the Builsa South District Assembly to release and disburse GHC 231,200 from his share of the common fund to support 264 native students in his constituency with their school fees.

According to Daniel Akogtu, Deputy Communication Officer and member of the Student Support Selection Committee, the 264 beneficiaries of the MP’s student support program—initiated in 2017—were carefully chosen from a pool of 426 applications.

Akogtu indicated that these applications were submitted by students seeking financial assistance through the MP’s selection committee.

“In the authorization letter to the Builsa South District Assembly dated 15th September 2024, Dr. Apaak, who is the Deputy Ranking member on Parliament’s Education Committee and a spokesperson on education for the NDC 2024 campaign, noted that out of the 264, 140 of the beneficiaries are females and 124 are males”.

Akogtu stated that according to the communication sent to the Assembly, the program’s 264 beneficiaries include 182 students enrolled in various universities across the country and 82 students attending nursing and teacher training colleges.

He indicated that this diverse distribution reflects the program’s commitment to supporting a wide range of educational pursuits within the constituency.

Akogtu further indicated that each of the 182 university students will receive a support package of GHc 1,000, while the 82 nursing and teacher trainees will receive GHc 600 each to help with their educational expenses.

He noted that however, due to limited funding, the program was unable to accommodate all applicants who applied for assistance, highlighting the ongoing need for additional resources to support students in the community who are striving for higher education.

According to him, the selection committee expressed hope that, in the future, more funding will be available to expand the program and assist a greater number of deserving students.

Support for Future Applicants

Furthermore, Dr. Apaak encouraged unsuccessful applicants to reapply next year, assuring them that priority will be given to those who met the eligibility criteria but were unable to receive support this year.

According to Daniel Akogtu, Dr. Apaak’s student support program, which was initiated in 2017, has successfully assisted a total of 995 students from Builsa South over the years, distributing a total of GHc 747,000 in financial aid.

This substantial investment reflects the program’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities within the constituency and underscores Dr. Apaak’s dedication to supporting the academic aspirations of local students.

Akogtu emphasized that the program aims to alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by families, enabling more students to pursue their education and achieve their career goals.

As such, he indicated that as the program continues to grow, it seeks to expand its reach and impact, further contributing to the educational development of the community.

“The students’ support program is but one of many interventions the hardworking and popular MP has made in the area of education. His commitment to supporting education in the Builsa South Constituency, in line with his dedication to public service, remains exemplary”.

Akogtu also highlighted that, in addition to education, Dr. Apaak has implemented significant life-transforming interventions across various sectors, including healthcare delivery, water and sanitation, youth and women’s empowerment, and agriculture.

These initiatives reflect Dr. Apaak’s comprehensive approach to community development, aiming to improve the overall quality of life for residents in Builsa South.

He noted that in healthcare, Dr. Apaak has worked to enhance access to medical services and promote health education, ensuring that communities receive the care they need.

Akogtu stated that the MP’s efforts in water and sanitation have focused on providing clean drinking water and improving sanitation facilities, which are crucial for public health and well-being.

Moreover, he indicated that Dr. Apaak has championed programs that empower youth and women, fostering skills development and entrepreneurship to create economic opportunities.

Akogtu also stated that in agriculture, Hon. Appak has supported initiatives that promote sustainable farming practices and improve food security for local families.
